Commission claims two misspent campaign funds.
A state agency is suing former Rep. Gary Condit's children for $2.4 million because they allegedly misspent $226,000 in funds the congressman originally raised to advance his career. The Fair Political Practices Commission filed suit against Chad and Cadee Condit this week in Sacramento County Superior Court. The lawsuit says they enriched themselves with political action committee funds that should have been used for political, legislative or government purposes.
The agency alleges they paid themselves $226,000 for work they were not qualified to undertake. It also says the two did not produce the services for which they paid themselves.

Maybe they could give up some info on how Daddy did Chandra and have their fines waived.
These apples fall extremely close to the tree don't they.
Two points on this: 1. Who is to say who is qualified to do this job? If I want to hire a politcal novice to run my campaign, that is my business. And who is to say that that novice may not just be a political genius even though some agency or court says he is not qualified? I don't want courts telling me who I can hire. Bad precedent.
2. Sounds like they unjustly enriched themselves without doing much for the campaign - at least as the complaint reads. That is a problem. But, not as big a problem in the larger scheme of things as the first point.
If I remember it correctly, his kids came off as obnoxious (and strange) brats on Larry King when the Chandra investigation was going on.
You remember quite correctly.
I hope someone of authority is still paying attention to Gary.
It should be easy - just follow the trail of shaved-off pubic hair.
Indeed.
Pretty stiff penalties for actions that many retiring Congressmen engage in.
Not that I disapprove, but I haven't heard of such stiff fines elsewhere, related to campaign violations. This must be unique to CA law. How much money did Hillary under report -- about $500,000? And her campaign is being fined $35,000.
Several former and current state legislators here in WI are in trouble with the campaign laws and their potential fines range between $1000-$5000 and 30 days in jail. I wish the fines were larger.
Well, getting inconvenient girls killed ain't as cheap as it used to be. Right, Teddy?
Remember that Condit was part of the D.C. sex mafia, along with Kasich and Scarborough. My father's nephew's cousin's former roomate told me. ;-)
"Gary Condit is a dirtbag."
bump
Condit is a dirtbag?
Sir, you have insulted my Hoover vacuum cleaner and dirtbags everywhere.

$2.4 million ... that's a lot of ice cream cones.

Chad and Cadee Condit also said they have gone into the ice cream business with their father. Reached by telephone Tuesday at their Baskin-Robbins outlet in Glendale, Ariz., Chad Condit repeated a vow not to talk to Modesto Bee reporters. He did take time to explain why he often refers to his father as "Gary."
The state is going to punish theives by stealing ten times the amount of money the theives stole?
Nice racket.
