Princeton CAP magazine piece Kennedy read was satire
Powerline ^ | January 14, 2006

You can read the full Prospect article on Kennedy's site. Its subject is a lawsuit by a female Princeton student who wanted to be admitted to an all-male eating club at the university. As the title suggests, it argues more broadly that elitism isn't a bad thing. The article is written in an arch style that doesn't do much for me, and I don't think it's very good. But there isn't anything especially offensive or even controversial in it.

Dinesh D'Souza was the editor of Prospect at the time, and he confirms that the article, by H. W. Crocker III, now an editor for Regnery Books, was a satire:

The essay may not have been funny, D'Souza acknowledges, but Kennedy read from it as if it had been serious instead of an attempt at humor. "I think left-wing groups have been feeding Senator Kennedy snippets and he has been mindlessly reciting them," D'Souza said. "It was a satire."

The bottom line is that if this is the most "offensive" article CAP was responsible for in its decade-plus of existence, the Democrats' whole guilt-by-association effort was much ado about nothing. If being associated, however remotely, with attempts at humor that don't turn out to be very funny is enough to place a public figure beyond the pale, the Democrats had better stay away from Al Franken.

where has Howard Dean been lately?

"Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean says no Democrat lawmakers took money from lobbyist Jack Abramoff -- 'not one, not one single Democrat.' "

just looking at Neas gives me the creeps

He's a creepy guy.

Amazing how the media can throw fits that Abramoff may own a few Republican congressmen but say nothing about Neas owning the Democrat members of the Judiciary Committee.

Beckel agreed it was time for Kennedy to go? He'd better watch his step...no lonely roads for a while.

Your post reminds me of a joke George Will told several years ago.

Two liberals happen upon finding a man badly bruised and beaten, unconscious in an alley. They see him and become immediately agitated, saying to each other "We've got to find whoever did this to this poor man. He clearly needs help for rage issues".

Just when I think Kennedy couldn't look more like a fool than he already does, I'm pleasantly surprised to find he has much more stupidity to share with us.

I heard that either Harvard or Yale offers a course in stupidity. In Kennedy's case, he must have gone for a PHD.

I just saw your post...and when you think about it...one of the things they have critisized Bush about is the "wrong intelligence" going into Iraq....

I would say they used "bad intelligence"...

I saw a promo for the Fox Sunday show...and I know 3 guests are the three men running for Tom Delay's Majority leader job...

Blunt, Boehner, and Shadegg.

Earlier in the week, I heard Chris Wallace say he was having Graham and Schumer ....so I don't know if they have been replaced...since the hearing is over...or Chris is having a very busy show.

I heard that they are having a Dem Caucus on Wednesday of next week...I wonder how they will handle the "disgrace" that was the Alito hearings???

I wonder if Soros will be there to "threaten" them...I hope, I hope...LOL

Joe Conason reads the "talking points" of the left wing dims and never worries about the facts.

"The editor of Princeton's Prospect magazine says the piece that Kennedy read at Judge Alito's confirmation hearing was satire."

Thanks for posting this.

It will be interesting to see if FOX or any of the LSM picks up on the satirical aspect of the piece that Kennedy misrepresented during his questioning of Alito.

Kelly

I bet the lowly clerk who was asked to make that poster could tell that the words were a spoof! haven't we had Mad Magazine for over half a century, and Saturday Night Live for more than 25 years? Just brilliant that it is now enshrined in a photo with a 'concerned' senator Kennedy

I was sort of thinking in this direction on Friday.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/1557385/posts?page=6#6

I was there at the time, and the idea that anybody in CAP could have written that seriously just didn't add up.

Glad to hear it was satire.

Hehe. Kennedy must have a brilliant staff indeed. As long as they are employed by this fat, drunk, P.O.S. socialist... I think it bodes well for the rest of us since Mass seems committed to electing anything with the name kennedy.

I think that he will still have them on. But I wonder if the story about the CAP story being satire will be brought up?

After over ten years of being out of power in congress, and topped by two straight presidential defeats by a Republican that they completely underestimated (ala Reagan), their seething rage has driven them into utter delusion.

It really is a spectacle to behold.
