You can read the full Prospect article on Kennedy's site. Its subject is a lawsuit by a female Princeton student who wanted to be admitted to an all-male eating club at the university. As the title suggests, it argues more broadly that elitism isn't a bad thing. The article is written in an arch style that doesn't do much for me, and I don't think it's very good. But there isn't anything especially offensive or even controversial in it.
Dinesh D'Souza was the editor of Prospect at the time, and he confirms that the article, by H. W. Crocker III, now an editor for Regnery Books, was a satire:
The essay may not have been funny, D'Souza acknowledges, but Kennedy read from it as if it had been serious instead of an attempt at humor. "I think left-wing groups have been feeding Senator Kennedy snippets and he has been mindlessly reciting them," D'Souza said. "It was a satire."
The bottom line is that if this is the most "offensive" article CAP was responsible for in its decade-plus of existence, the Democrats' whole guilt-by-association effort was much ado about nothing. If being associated, however remotely, with attempts at humor that don't turn out to be very funny is enough to place a public figure beyond the pale, the Democrats had better stay away from Al Franken.
I wondered what they would be bleating. It must really be painful to be them! Ha!
Justice Alito....bwahahahahahahaha!
Why didn't any Senators call Kennedy on his stupidity? They missed a perfect chance to right after he read that.
Isn't he the one who also repeated some internet myth a few weeks ago -- something that a mainstream paper (LAT? WP?) had to retract a few hours after publishing it? Topic escapes me at the moment. (brain cramp)
Good question. I can only say the president is a much nicer person than I am because I'd have cut Kennedy off at the knees a long time ago.
Maybe the president belong to the "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" school of thought.
LOL. Great idea. He'd go for it, too.
Thanks for that information, Pesky. I've decided to call a few members of the Judiciary Committee Tuesday (Monday is a holiday) and make sure their staffs knows that Kennedy apparently doesn't understand satire.
I remember that; did he ever apologize for that?
After two months of investigation by "The Groups", the only ammunition the Dims have is a purported statement by a member of a club that Alito might have been tangentially involved with while attending college over 25 years ago, which turns out to have been a satire? And these people believe that they are qualified to run the country? I think not.
So the NY Post editors know it was satire too. hehehehe
Talk about being "stuck on stupid". LOL!
Oh yes. He was in the middle of expressing his moral outrage about a student who said he borrowed a book on Marxism and was then hassled by the DHS. The student confessed it was a hoax, but not before the MSM had published it and had to retract it. Unfortunately for Flipper, he didn't get the retraction and was pontificating about it on the record even after everyone started laughing at him (or should I say, continued laughing at him). As dear Gilda would have said, "Never mind."
~~~These lazy-ass droolers don't bother to check their facts - or even read the papers for the lastest updates.~~~
it's amazing, isn't it? WE know more than they know!
For example:
oh those articles made me crazy!
I see we're back to "the man is holding me down."
Do you think she is the boss there, really?
That, and those transplants.
Can you imagine listening to the State of the Union while you keep asking yourself, "Jeeze, what happened to his head?"
It's like Kennedy is channeling to Michael Moore, Al Franken, and Cindy Sheehan.
Mock The Left!
Well, she knew his script better than he did.
Actually they are all puppets of Ralph Neas of People for the unAmerican Way and other groups.
It stunes me that lazy-ass Dan Rather went for months without understanding how the documents he insisted were genuine were, instead, shown to be bogus.
These guys are OBLIVIOUS.
