If a Dem gets elected, they will show how you turn a Golden State permanently into a third world country.

How dare Arnold demostrate Republican ideas! He didn't demostrate many but to hear liberals tell it you would think he was as far right as a person could get. I need to get out of this state, soon!

The CAGOP needs to dump Schwarzenegger. Continuing to support Schwarzenegger is simply going to enhance the damage his liberal policies have already wrought upon the state and its electorate.
Someone should step up to compete in the Republican primary. A moderate Republican would get the support of conservatives (about 35% of the Republican Party and 15% of the electorate), a support that Schwarzenegger couldn't overcome.
A Republican moderate would be competitive in the general election because of the weakness of the Democrat opponent. Both conservative Democrats and all but blindly loyal Republicans are realizing the damage that Schwarzenegger and his Democrat allies in the Legislature have done to the state's finances. By design, The 2006-2007 budget won't be finalized before the primary. They red ink and liberal giveaways would wipe out any chance Schwarzenegger might have, in spite of CAGOP support.

"If a Dem gets elected, they will show how you turn a Golden State permanently into a third world country."(D) or (R)ino Arnold = Same Leftist Target with only slight difference in mode of transporation to get there.
I have yet to find a conservative in OC who plans to vote again for your man Arnold the Magnificent.
The outlook is not good. He won't win without conservatives. Of course with his hard charge leftward, he may pick up enough flotsam and jetsam to make up the difference.
I see the Governor's Office has extended your contract to continue flacking for Arnold.

I was going to add the "news" topic to this thread to lure in the RNC shills but someone already beat me to it.
Rats!

Got news for you. We already are a third world country and dropping. What is next? No status at all.

I've read this thread, and agree with a lot of what everybody's saying. FWIW, here's my feelings on the Golden State.
I was an Ahnold supporter. (As much as I could be, I was living in Washington at the time.) Arnold's been quite the let down. I feel that his Fate of State address was pretty liberal, and he's basically given up trying to fight the legislature. He's just going to cow-tow and rubber stamp what they want.
Tom McClintock may very well be the best candidate for anything in Californa, but I don't think he can win. And it's not because he's too conservative. It's cause he's blah. Let's remember what we're talking about -- we're talking about California, where everything needs to have a nice glossy coat on it. Everything needs to be bigger, better, bolder. Tom McClintock would win hands down in a different state -- Iowa, Wyoming, Kansas, etc. And to the guy who keeps repeating that Tom McClintock won the highest number of votes by a Repub... that's a nice little piece of trivia. The fact is he lost. There ain't no prize for second place.
What's that leave us? I dunno. I think a conservative can win in California, but it's gotta be somebody who carries a lot of "oomph" with him -- clear, bold visions, passionate words, and probably somebody who hasn't been stained by California politics.
Otherwise, we're left with two choices -- moderate to liberal RINOs, or the moderate to conservative Democrats. The two are the same in my book. But I think I sleep a little better with somebody with the Republican moniker.

Arnold needs to go down to a big defeat. His hard shift to the left is such a betrayal that he must be made into a poster boy.

Right now, Arnold is the only electable candidate for Governor in either party. It's an amazing commentary on the state of California politics.

..he gave real reform a try and got his head handed to him on those propositions.
What else can he do but settle back into RINO mode. Californians as a whole do not want change...

Arnuld must be running in Mass. and not Kalifornia.

This poll doesn't mean much at this point. Tactically, the Dem/MSM Cabal was not ready for his move to the liberal side, and they have not yet come up with a strategy to destroy him and get one their own elected.
Mostly, they plan on digging in, showing him to be ineffective no matter what is proposed. They will put the most ridiculous requirements on any negotiation in order to sabotage any progress. The tricky part for the new Gov. S. staff will be trying to stop them from getting away with it, and coming up with a narrative that the press can sink their teeth into.
My guess is he will keep moving all over the spectrum politically to keep them from triangulating on him.

If the republicans are smart they'll get a conservative candidate like McClintock, even if the candidate looses he/she could get enough conservatives out to re-elect Arnold. You also never know with enough conservatives coming out to vote in a midterm election with low turnout, there's always the possibilty of an upset. A conservative state sen. or a veteran could make the race at least a little interesting.
