A high school research assignment on Internet pornography was canceled after parents in this Cleveland suburb complained.
Superintendent Jeff Lampert said that although the teacher's apparent goal _ to discuss the harmful effects of pornography _ was well- intentioned, he agreed with parents that the assignment was inappropriate for 14- and 15-year-old freshmen at Brooklyn High.
The assignment asked students to research pornography on the Internet and list eight facts about pornography. Students also were asked to write their personal views of pornography and any experience they had with it.
Lampert said he doubted the teacher would face any punishment.

For once, students were actually excited about doing their homework.

Someone needs to investigate this teacher for sexual crimes. At the least the teacher should register as a sex offender.

If my 14 year old granddaughter was given an assignment like that, I'd be at the school demanding he be fired. The teacher is sick. I'd also try to give him an attitude adjustment. Our school districts have very strict policies about teachers disabling filters on computers for this very reason.

The teacher will look back on this with the same question that Walter Mondale had for himself after running for President on the "I'm gonna raise your taxes platform".....

Interestingly enough, Googling "pornography" brings at least two pages about the harm pornography does. And that's with my filter off.
What it does not do, at least on the first pages, is display any sites which have pornography on them.
Could have been a good assignment, as long as the students worked with the pages that discuss the effect of pornography on society. That sounds like the purpose of the assignment, and it might have done the kids some good to read what is written about it.

Moral Absolutes Ping! (I'm just helping out little jeremiah with this list while he gets his computer problems fixed).
To portray to children that pornography is anything other than evil is disgusting. What this teacher was assigning was also going to harm them.
I know all about how these kids know "how to find it anyway." But that is like telling them to go buy crack because they know where a crackhouse is located.
