Former Vice President Al Gore will attack President Bushs domestic eavesdropping program at a Washington, D.C., speech on Martin Luther King Daywith a Republican by his side.
Gore is teaming up with former Rep. Bob Barr, a Republican, for the policy address, sponsored by the liberal MoveOn.org and libertarian Liberty Coalition. Barr is an outspoken critic of Bush on issues of national security. He led the drive to impeach President Bill Clinton, Gores partner in the White House for eight years.
The speech will specifically point to domestic wiretapping and torture as examples of the administration's efforts to extend executive power beyond Congressional direction and judicial review, according to a MoveOn.org press release. The extent of bipartisan concern over these issues is highlighted by former Republican Rep. Bob Barr's introduction of the Vice President and by the organizations cosponsoring the speech.
Gores speech marks the second time in two weeks he will make a sympathetic plea to Republicans. On Jan. 5, he appeared before a group of center-right activists at Grover Norquists popular Wednesday Group meeting to talk about global warming.
MoveOn.org made a last-minute offer Friday for tickets to Gores speech: Don't worry if you get a waitlist ticket. We expect that everyone on the the waiting list will be able to get into the event, we just can't guarantee it.
The speech will be held at DAR Constitution Hall, the same location Gore used for a Nov. 9, 2003, speech that denounced Bush and then-Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft for their assault on civil liberties.
LOL. Your probaly right. You know, "principles." ; ).
When will the "Police State" arrest these two?
Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't barr the one who pulled the trigger on a ceremonial gun at someone's house..and it was loaded and fired..was it him???
The Barr photo is pre-tagged from CNN.
My only question for the two: "So, fellahs, since you guys don't like living in a police state, do you support the full release of the unredacted Barrett Report?"
that can't possibly be real. a deadringer.
Al Gore is wrong, even when he agrees with Bob Barr.
Al Gore invented poor loser-manship.
Gone over years ago. Any Republican who allies himself with the ACLU is an enemy of all Republicans, as well as Americans. There is no organization more committed to the destruction of the principles upon which this nation was founded than the ACLU. For a long time many of us slammed Bob Barr for his support of these cultural terrorists, and were told what a good man he was. Hopefully this matter settles that debate.
I am extremely disappointed in Bob Barr.
This joker makes me laugh..He and his pal Bill.. Bill Clinton and Al Gore met with known criminals who either gave large amounts of money to the Democrats or were brought in by those giving huge sums of money to the Democrats. These people included convicted drug dealer Jorge Cabrera; a Chinese arms dealer named Wang Jun; and Grigory Lutchansky, whose company, Nordex, was on Clinton's CIA watch list and who was denied entry into Canada because he failed a background check!
We've seen this happen before. Ritter comes to mind.
Well even the ACLU can be right once in a while.
But THIS is NOT one of those times.
Are you hinting that a child pornography arrest is in Barr's future?
Gore watched Maria Hsia get convicted of one or more felony counts regarding illegal fundraising. Gore could not remember anything about nuns and monks donating . Gore promised the kin of Pam Am flight 300 he would make sure airports would be more secure. Gore has a nerve to complain about George W. Bush. Gore needs to clean up his own record of lies and illegal fundraising.
Add one more: "What is your opinion of the domestic spying program, code named "Echelon", which was conducted by the Clinton Whitehouse?"
AND these two losers wonder why they're no longer ELECTED officials. Duhhhhhh!
