Former Vice President Al Gore will attack President Bushs domestic eavesdropping program at a Washington, D.C., speech on Martin Luther King Daywith a Republican by his side.
Gore is teaming up with former Rep. Bob Barr, a Republican, for the policy address, sponsored by the liberal MoveOn.org and libertarian Liberty Coalition. Barr is an outspoken critic of Bush on issues of national security. He led the drive to impeach President Bill Clinton, Gores partner in the White House for eight years.
The speech will specifically point to domestic wiretapping and torture as examples of the administration's efforts to extend executive power beyond Congressional direction and judicial review, according to a MoveOn.org press release. The extent of bipartisan concern over these issues is highlighted by former Republican Rep. Bob Barr's introduction of the Vice President and by the organizations cosponsoring the speech.
Gores speech marks the second time in two weeks he will make a sympathetic plea to Republicans. On Jan. 5, he appeared before a group of center-right activists at Grover Norquists popular Wednesday Group meeting to talk about global warming.
MoveOn.org made a last-minute offer Friday for tickets to Gores speech: Don't worry if you get a waitlist ticket. We expect that everyone on the the waiting list will be able to get into the event, we just can't guarantee it.
The speech will be held at DAR Constitution Hall, the same location Gore used for a Nov. 9, 2003, speech that denounced Bush and then-Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft for their assault on civil liberties.
Gone over to the dark side.
I wonder how much larry flynt paid bob barr.
Good. This will help Bush.
one meathead + one meathead = two meatheads
That's all you need to know.
SoreLoserman
NOW they like and respect him (Barr). Cozy
Of course, the use that Clinton made of the 'domestic surveillance' option wll be discussed in his speech, won't it?
Silly me!
Two guys who have forgotten completely about 9/11.
No, Bob! Say it isn't so!!!
Go make your wife have another abortion Bob. I always thought that guy was a looney tune.
I mean, even if he's perfectly sincere in his attacks on the administration, why join forces with the hypocritical Al Gore who as part of the Clinton administration unleashed the heyday of US govt. spying on US citizens?
I bet you that it's actually more a case of him getting paid a lot of money to say these things.
This piece of work has ABSOLUTELY NO CREDIBILITY on this issue. Part of one of the most corrupt, criminal administrations ever..............
bob barr joined the ACLU a couple of years ago.
It's common knowledge on FR.
If it's such a "police state" then there must be no more crime in America?
Yeah, I figured that. The one of the right is in color.
A lifetime subscription to Hustler.
I notice the little CNN next to Barr's photo. Is that CNN's montage, or yours?
