One virtual space I’ve hung out in for 15 years (The WELL) has had a very active UK based “Islamic” poster in the political discussion areas for the last two years.

It’s pretty spooky to interact with an intelligent and articulate poster who tryly believes that the answer to every question is in the Koran – it’s sort of like listening to that Taliban spokesperson who used to get widely quoted in the media.

But if anything his efforts retard the acceptance of his line of cant, pretty much without exception (and The WELL has posters with a very wide range of political and social opinions) he’s just succeeded in reminding everyone who reads him that the radial Islamists are deeply sunk in self delusion, and more dangerous for it – if you have any illusions of your own that any sort of accommodation with these people is possible on any terms other than containment, you rapidly loose it.
