This morning, the Senate Judiciary Cmte. convenes for a final session in the nomination hearings of Judge Samuel Alito. Outside witnesses who did not testify at yes- terday's hearings are given an opportunity to offer their opinions on the nominee. The Cmte. meets again to vote, either to approve or reject, on Tues., Jan. 17

We'll see. It's a bigger political football than just the players in the Judiciary Committee. DEMs seem determined to be a$$'s on this, not conceding any form of loss whatsoever. No surprise, politics isn't bean bag.Yeah, the Committee is just one of two hurdles from which to jump over. I suspect the stalling tactic will be used more fervently on the Senate floor, where a larger number of Democrats can be more actively involved.

How many times can the delay tactic be used? Specter says it was already used when the hearings were rescheduled from January 2nd to January 9th. That was a gentleman's agreement and understanding. Specter does not have a written waiver of the right to the week delay from the members of the Committee was being consumed by shifting the start of hearings from the 2nd to the 9th.

If the Dems demand the 100 hours of debate, which would be 50 to each side..IMHO, the GOP should volutarily limit each of its senators to 15 minutes...which would use up about 10 hours, forego the balance of their time..then run a clock on the website to show how much of the Dems time is spent in a quorum..or they can let Boxer rant for all 50 hours..

Listening to post-hearing coverage on WBAI, the local affiliate of Pacifica (Communist) Radio.
They're lamenting the fact that the "people's voice" was "truncated."
