"He had NOTHING to do with that case."
Nor did the USSC. Refused to hear it FOUR TIMES.
Leahy needs to buy a clue.
Yesterday, he said Meirs was pulled from a USSC candidate. Wrong! She resigned!

I thought that Roberts was chosen for CJ in his own right. If Renquist hadn't died, he would have taken O'Conner's place and when he died, Bush would have still made him CJ. Am I off base?

No, Roberts was nominated when O'Connor announced her retirement. Aliso was nominated when Rehnquist passed away Roberts was nominated when O'Connor announced her retirement and vacancy on the court
Then Roberts was then nominated to fill the vacancy of Chief Justice when Rehnquist passed away.
Ailto was nominated when O'Conner vacancy became open again when Roberts didn't fill it

well, I'll be damned..............Specter sticks!
To: BigSkyFreeper
Yep. They have no regard for O'Connor or her ailing husband, and the longer she's on the bench, the longer she is kept away from her husband who has Alzheimers. O'Connor set this problem up for herself. She's the first Justice to set a date of retirement contingent on replacement.
And she should be flattered that the DEMs value her opinion on the court.
Specter says vote will proceed on the 17th, at 11AM, as agreed. If the DEMs delay, they will.

Arlen: "As far as I'm concerned we are going to proceed on the 17th."
Way to go, Arlen.
