Governor's approval rating is 78 percent
Hartford - Gov. M. Jodi Rell maintains her commanding lead over potential Democratic opponents John DeStefano and Dan Malloy in a new poll released this morning by Quinnipiac University.
Rell's approval rating remains "sky high," Poll Director Douglas Schwartz said, with 78 percent of those surveyed saying they approve of the job she is doing as governor. That is virtually unchanged since July, when 79 percent of voters said they approved of the governor's performance.
In a match-up with DeStefano, the mayor of New Haven, Rell would win, 64 percent to 21 percent.
She holds an even bigger lead over Malloy, the mayor of Stamford: 68 percent to 17 percent.
Schwartz said the ongoing investigation of Rell's chief of staff, M. Lisa Moody, over her fundraising activities has not affected the governor's popularity at all.
Eighty-three percent of those surveyed said Rell is honest and trustworthy, the pollsters found, and 60 percent said ethics in state government have improved since she took office.
Connecticut ping!
Please Freepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent Connecticut ping list.
Too bad she is as liberal as hell.
Ping!
Who will retire first? Dodd or Lieberman?
Find it interesting that Malloy is the Mayor of Stamford. Hasn't Stamford traditionally been a Republican city (at the LOCAL level)?
Dodd. He's older.
As of right now, YAWN!
But if Lowell Weicker challenges Sen. Joseph Lieberman for reelection, Rell could devote her campaign resources to a massive GOTV campaign for the GOP candidate. If Lieberman and Weicker divide the liberal vote, a moderately conservative Republican could be elected.
That's not going to happen, and if it did, unless the Republican was REALLY good, I'd wish he had lost.
It's good for the country for there to be at least 1 D that is as dedicated to the WOT as Lieberman is. If Lieberman loses, that will just prove to the D's that you can't support the war and stay elected, which will make them even worse then they are now. While it's OK for now, since we are in the majority, it could be dangerous, for the world and our troops, if we are ever in the minority.
That's a good question, but Stamford seems to have had mostly Democrat Mayors for the past couple of decades (it had only one GOP Mayor since the '80s, and very very briefly). Milford and New Britain are the only cities in CT that have a Republican Mayor at the moment.
I like Rell. She may be a RINO but she's done some decent things. She has very broad appeal...my liberal Democrat sister-in-law will vote for Rell over either of the Dem challengers.
LOL. Pithy. I like it. :)
