Prayer Request for my MIL
myself
Posted on 01/12/2006 3:39:38 PM PST by notpoliticallycorewrecked
Please pray for my MIL. She is 88 years old and is very ill. She had a stroke on Dec 22 and spent 9 days in the hospital. She has been struggling for some quality of life ever since. She is on some many medications that we need a ledger to make sure that she takes theom all on time. She has no appetite and has bouts of naseau that are getting more and more severe as time goes by. We think that has either a drug interaction problem or has developing an intolerance for one of her meds. She is rapidily losing weight and sleeps most of the time.

Prayers for your mother in law. Does she have more than one doctor prescribing medication for her?

Prayers are with you, but 88 is not a bad run - remember that.

Heavenly Father, we return to thank You for the love and compassion shown core's mother-in-law by her family ... may the diligence and efforts bring to light the cause of her immediate distress and may it bring a measure of relief. Grant wisdom to all those charged with her care, that they might delight in her improvement. We seek Your healing hand upon her, O Lord, and may it be thus, in the Name of Jesus, Amen ...

Does she have more than one doctor prescribing medication for her? Yes, but we are using the same RX for all of her meds. Plus, whenever we go to an appointment we take a computer printout of her meds she is currently taking to go over them with that MD.
Another poster made a comment about moment of joy. We had one this morning after a very rough night. We were talking about "fun" of losing your cookies. We have mutual morning sickness issues with all of our pregnancies. She turned and looks and me and hotly replied "Well I'm NOT pregnant". We both busted up laughing. I can't believe was a trooper she is, to have had such a rough night and still have her sense of humor intact.

I agree, it sounds like a drug reaction/side effect. Get the prescription list, look them up on the internet yourself, and get ready to advocate for her. Do NOT expect the doctors to do it - they simply don't have the time, but the information is freely available on the internet. Most importanntly, PUSH them to investigate the matter. Any time a senior is having trouble physically, look at the medications first.
I had one neighbor who was spiraling into dementia, but one day his wife forgot to give one him his meds, and he miraculously started coming back to sense. She held off for a week, and he was back to normal. It was amazing, and scary to think that this man was about to be sent to a nursing home because of a drug that had been prescribed by his doctor...

We have taken her of the med that was prescribed a day or two before she started the nausea and we are praying that it just needs a little more time to work itself out of her system. So far taking her off the one hasn't changed the situation.

I am praying for you and for her too - you are not alone in your prayers. We are lifting you up to God tonight...

My prayers for your 88 year old MIL. I came here last week asking for prayers for my 88 year old Mom. She is doing exceptionally well. Prayer works. Especially here.

Prayers for your MIL. Just a suggestion-talk to the pharmacist about drug interaction. He also may have some suggestions as to how to give the medicine that will reduce her side effects. Maybe giving something like Prilosec to protect her stomach. Pharmacists know more than doctors in this respect, IMO.

They have started her on Nexium about a day or so after the nausea started. I agree with you that pharmacists usually knows more about meds that the MDs. We are spacing the meds to minimize any potential problems that is why we are so tight on our time-line for meds.
