WASHINGTON, Jan 12 (Reuters) - U.S. Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito completed his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday after frustrated Democrats took a final crack at getting more definitive answers from the 55-year-old conservative.
President George W. Bush's nominee appeared headed toward confirmation later this month by the full Republican-led Senate, but more than half the Democrats were expected to oppose him.
Following three days of questioning of Alito, the Senate Judiciary Committee was to hear from outside witnesses, including some of Alito's colleagues on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Everyone whose parents and grandparents came here from Italy have a right to be proud of Judge Alito. Wow, like Antonin Scalia, he will be a brilliant justice on the Supreme Court.

And cry they will. Rivers.
I just wish republicans would stand up to this disgusting behavior by Teddy et al.
I did not follow the thing too closely, in order to keep my blood pressure down, but I believe some of the things said by the DIMs should have been responded to forcefully. As in "You're a liar telling disgusting lies. And you (Teddy) are in no position to lecture anyone on the subject of ethics".

And you (Teddy) are in no position to lecture anyone on the subject of ethics". You said what we're all thinking. Too bad not one of those senators has the intestinal fortitude to state the obvious.

It is ironic (if not hypocritical) that the party who says there are no absolutes in life would complain about their inability to get yes or no answers.

Why do we have to have Italian roots to be proud of him? He's 100% born American and 100% conservative. All Americans have a right to be proud of him!

Here Here...or go out on health issues which could very possibly happen. That would give us another go around to solidly sock it to the Dims. With Alito we will have a six and four court...it never hurts to pile it on!!

When voting against Alito on the Senate floor, the reasons will be as follows;
1) Because!
2) Just because!
3) None of your business!
4) Because!

I wonder if all the Repubs will support him. I would almost be surprised if Chafee does. More than half the Dems will vote no? I'm surprised it's not 90% of them. I wonder which will vote in favor. Even Joe Lieberman says he is "troubled." Beyond Ben Nelson I will be eager to see which Dems vote yes.

Democrats are not finished with Judge Alito. This is not a fight about Alito. It is a desperate battle for survival for Democrats. If Democrats lose this opportunity to keep a leftist tilt on the Supreme Court by denying confirmation to Alito they are virtually out of business.
Democrats, and Democrat voters, have spent the last 50 years advancing the socialist agenda in America. They have been successful, up to a point. That point is now reached. Socialism cannot be further extended because it can stretch the Constitution no farther. Democrats must get around the Constitution or give up.
We must quickly add that Republicans have been only a step or two behind the Democrats in their march to socialism. If you don't believe it, let me know the last time a Republican proposed to significantly reduce the size of government and then proceeded to try and do so.
Almost all of the successes Dems have had have been because of leftists judges in the courts, not just the Supreme Court. This is a battle for Democrat survival.
