but you see, that's how THEY 'do business' so they think everybody does
It is showing how friggin clueless they are about the RULES of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Specter just read a list of judges and justices who have testified before the committees of the past.
He also read from the code of judicial ethics saying have judges testify is a good idea because they are UNIQUELY qualified.
The Dems are rude, arrogant and ignorant.

I don't think the democrats even considered an "anita hill", since Alito is a white guy.

It's good to be cautious. But I have to really ask you to tell me that W did not go to the mat for Pryor, Rogers Brown, Pickering, etc.? He gets it. No question.

They are playing Feingold's discussion with Alito about the judges. Feingold said he was hoping to question the judges about his concerns.
But when they actually showed up, did Feingold question the judges about it?
Does that mean he just lied during the testimony? Oh that's right, Feingold isn't under oath.

My thoughts and prayers are with you! We had our second granddaughter born prematurely. She had some issues, and we had many sleepless days, and you're right she was a baby, not a fetus who happened to survive. She is now 8 months old and doing well. When I think there are people who think it would have been okay to let her die since she wasn't full term it makes me ill. You're right, I'm sick of hearing about abortion rights! Enough already!!

5:05PM: Sen. Specter lists former Federal judges who have testified on behalf of others in Judicial nomination hearings. Judicial experience provides special expertise, and it is obvious that the insights that judges have are unique -- they have more to say that is "relevant, and weighty" than other witnesses with regard to Alito's agenda, approach, and views. Thanks the Judges for coming in.
10 minute break until we have "fresh witnesses and tired senators."
5:03PM: Sen. Coburn thanks the Judges for teaching him legal lingo. Asks if he thinks there is any merit to the allegation that Alito is hostile to rights of minorities or women. Judge Berry says no, and she wouldn't be here if she believed he was hostile to civil rights. Fmr. Judge Lewis emphatically agrees with Berry. Coburn notes that there can be no better recommendation than from your work colleagues, and biggest tragedy of these hearings are allegations not based on fact.
5:02PM: Judge Becker agrees -- you change your point of view when you become a judge. Notes recusal is about a judge having an interest in the case, but this would not occur if Alito were to hear 3rd Circuit cases on appeal.
5:00PM: Sen. Cornyn asks Judges Gibbons and Becker of the transforming experience of crossing over from being an ordinary lawyer and US Attorney to a judge, and the different obligation and responsibilities this creates. Asks Becker to comment about Sen. Biden's questions this morning about Roe v. Wade, which seemed to imply that his 1985 memos would mean Alito would overrule.

A relative used to be one of the Judiciary Committee prep guys for judges and appointees like Ashcroft.
His take is they will go for the filibuster - and the rhetoric seems to indicate just that. Of course, if you are going to huff and puff for your MoveOn masters, they have to make it look good even if they don't actually pull the trigger.
It seems to me that the 'nuclear' analogy is more aptly applied to the use of the filibuster rather than a move to break it. Just like nuclear weapons, threatening to use them is one thing, emptying the silos with no way back and no second strike in your back pocket if you lose is another. But - sooner or later you pull the trigger or no one pays attention to you any more. And we all know Teddy and Biden and Schumer (oh my!) couldn't have that.
Yes, it seems that the Dems are becoming more and more like North Korea - with Teddy as the South Park version of Kim Jong-Il, only whiter and fatter. How so? >>>>>>
1) North Korea is a Chinese puppet with occasional ambitions of their own to appear to be autonomous.
The Democratic Party is a MoveOn (et al) puppet with occasional forays into sanity just to appear autonomous.
2) Wild rhetoric and threats of nuclear destruction and/or the overt or covert sale of same is North Korea's stock-in-trade to attempt to gain leverage in a world full of much bigger, more important countries. Kind of like a kid with a popgun in a room full of adults.
The Democratic Party spews wild rhetoric and accusations to make themselves sound relevant even as they work covert and overt deals to use their 'power' for the Michael Moore's and Soros' of the world. And they scream like winos in detox when they aren't getting their way . . . kind of like a kid - you get the idea
