- the former Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Aziz, held by the American army, "fails" and will not live more than one month because of a "cerebral embolism and cardiac diseases", affirms its lawyer in public statements Thursday by Arab daily newspaper Al-Hayat.

According to Me Badie Arif Ezzat, Tarek Aziz is held in a room "reserved for the dogs".

Tarek Aziz "fails and I do not expect that it lives more than one month" because of the continuations of a "cerebral embolism and diseases cardiac", it declared.

Me Ezzat did not specify the date on which Mr. Aziz was reached of these diseases, but indicated to have noted its bad health at the time of a visit to its customer at the time of the Al-Adha festival, which began Tuesday.

December 28, the lawyer had indicated to AFP to have met Mr. Aziz and to have found it "in good health even if it lost much weight". "Its moral is good", it had also added.

It had then made state of "une clear improvement of the conditions of detention of its customer".

The former Iraqi person in charge is held in a dark room "reserved for the dogs", not exceeding two meters length and a meter broad. He leaves it only briefly, added to Me Ezzat in his declarations to Al-Hayat.

November 20, the same lawyer had indicated as Mr. Aziz, held by the American army since April 2003, had received for the second time the visit of his daughters who found it in bad health.

The lawyer also affirmed that the charges of collective massacre carried against Tarek Aziz "were cancelled" fault of evidence. He however made state of "attempts carry (against Mr. Aziz) of the loads of dilapidation of public funds".

69 years old, Mr. Aziz had gone to the Americans little after the catch of Baghdad.

Christian chaldéen, it was one of the rare leaders of Ancien Régime to speak English and of this fact one about most known abroad during the long years during which it was used for the head of the diplomacy of his country, in particular during the crisis and the war of the Gulf (1990-1991).

He is shown of two massacres in 1979 and 1991, but clamp his innocence.

In addition, Jamal Moustafa, the husband of one of the girls of the deposed president, Saddam Hussein, and Louaïe Khairallah Telfah, brother-in-law of the former dictator, are still held, contrary to information of press, underlined to Me Ezzat. He nevertheless indicated that the American forces planned to release them soon.

The American authorities in Iraq announced the recent release of 22 figures of Ancien Régime, affirming that they did not represent any more a threat for safety.

Would it be "torture" or offensive To JoAnna McCain if the authorities told him they could extend his life if he came clean about the WMD?

I thought he was dead?

No, only his career is. (Hat tip: Mr. C. Montgomery Burns)

The Bloomberg Headline says Aziz is dying in a "dog chamber".

I quite like that.

A dog chamber beats a paper shredder, any day.

I don't recall having heard anything much about him in the last year or so, but I would have said that he was still alive.

What has always pained me about this guy is that he was known as a Christian. I've met a number of Chaldeans in the last ten or twelve years (refugees seeking asylum from Saddam) and while I would not subscribe to all the particulars of their theology they have been warm, friendly people for whom the teachings of Christ are an important part of their daily lives. How someone like Aziz could have that background and be associated with such brutality and deceipt is dismaying.

Not necessarily. I think he has a lot of information, and as much as I despise the sound of his voice and his face from the Persian Gulf War, I think he's been somewhat willing to testify against the regime. He may have a lor of useful information that the world should hear coming from his own lips.

This is tragic ... taking up space that some dog could be using.
