Japan on Wednesday released a video in a bid to prove Greenpeace targeted its whaling ship in an Antarctic collision this week and accused the environmentalists of violent tactics.
Japan's main whaling body put a video on its website that showed Greenpeace's Arctic Sunrise moving steadily forward before hitting the whaling ship Nisshin Maru, whose movement was impeded by another whaling vessel nearby.
"It was a deliberate action to get media coverage," Japan's Institute for Cetacean Research said in a statement.
"The Arctic Sunrise could have avoided this collision. Instead the skipper turned the boat into the path of the Nisshin Maru and rammed us at our weakest point," it said.
"This cannot be called a peaceful protest," it said in the statement accompanying the video at www.icrwhale.org.

I figured as much...having seen videos of their previous protests, using their little boats to purposely cross right in front of the bow of ships they were "acting against", hoping to make the ships capitan fear for their lives and cut speed or turn from their course. Playing "chicken" with them.
Sooner or later a boatful of these idiots is going to get crushed and the "activists" are going to get turned into chum by the ships propellers when they get pulled into them by the undertow.

Once you're been intentionally rammed like this, I assume, this being a whaling ship and all, that it would be alright to turn your harpoon gun on these thugs in self defense.
The Japanese would be perfectly within their rights to sink these punks for committing an act of Piracy on the high seas. I'd stand up and applaud if they did.

They meant to ram the vessel.

The Green Peace captain tried to and did hit the Japanese ship.
This was no accident.
Even if they tried last minute to full spead astern, they were playing a dangerous game that could have cost the lives of the people on both ships. The Master of the Green Peace vesel should loose his licence at best. Prison is more likely a punishment.
Anyone know who the Master of the Artic Sunrise is, or was?
Why wouldn't they be considered a terrorist organization and treated as such?
I can't stand Greenpeace.
I'm not usually fond of the French either. But about twenty years ago, I enjoyed reading about how a French intelligence service sunk the Greenpeace ship "Rainbow Warrior" in New Zealand.
If the Japanese whaling fleet got a naval escort, I wonder if their navy would be allowed to use force to prevent another ramming incident?
Time to start putting cannons back on merchant ships.

Its preferred methods? Ramming and sinking fishing ships, throwing butyric acid on their decks, and firing machine guns.
Watson argues that United Nations resolutions authorize him to commit violent acts. But he regularly interferes with fisherman and hunters who are committing no crime.
He serves as judge, jury, and executioner -- while enjoying the same tax-exempt status as universities and churches.
Some of the animal-rights movement’s most notorious terrorists got their start with SSCS.
One of them, convicted arsonist Rodney Coronado, had Watson’s approval to plan and execute an attack on Iceland’s whaling industry.
He and a colleague sank two of the fleet’s four ships and destroyed a processing facility.

Two of the five were also accused of possessing explosives, carrying weapons, and vandalizing the Toronto University dentistry school...
One of the latter two, David Barbarash, has served as an ALF spokesman, and The Oregonian said the group was an ALF cell.

Yeah sure Greenpeace, ships always get rammed in their bow. I've been with some pretty rowdy crews on the open ocean that would be firing all the flares they had at these morons. The Japanese are showing extraordinary restraint here, and should be commended.
