And here the editorial on NPR last night laid the deaths squarely at the feet of the Bush administration, because of its penchant for deregulation.

The amusing thing was that the proof of this was the number of violations the mine had racked up. But surely the number of violations will increase as regulation is increased, and not the other way around! The many violations cited at this mine should be taken, according to NPR's philosophy, as a sign of regulatory health.
