Day 3: Questioning Continues
This morning, Round 1 concludes with Senators on the Judiciary Cmte. who did not question nominee Alito yesterday. During Round 2, questioning is limited to 20 minutes for each of the eight- een senators. Chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA) leads off, followed by the others, alternating by party in order of seniority.
WEDS., 9:30AM ET, C-SPAN
as the gavel goes down to close the session. Sounds like my normal timing! see you tomorrow
Remember the money in the freezer? The special trip to his house to collect boxes of private items when the National Guard got stuck in the mud and they had to flag down a helicopter to rescue him???
DANG...what did I say???
I have said nothing against Mrs. Alito...
I did say, a while ago...that the DEMS will try to portray this as a staged event...but I KNOW it isn't!!!
Do you see schumer busting up in the middle of the photo op with leahy and Spector?
hmmmm....is he telling us more than we want to know with that gesture??? ROFL
He was very reserved in his comments and did not press Alito or badger him.
Brit just had the clip on Special Report...powerful moment.
NOW the table is going to discuss this whole thing...
Better wire up the backup. I suspect the smite button is going to wear out tommorow. :-)
Cause the dems will go into private, late night, session to look for dirt for tomorrows final questions by Biden.
Well Brit just showed it, albeit a shorter version, (she wiped her tears in the live version), and then left.
And I teared up again!
used to be a career booster -- before all the dem voters were moved out due to Katrina.
Whoa! Some guy just called CSPAN and brought Mary Jo, saying Kennedy ought to be in prison, not in the Senate.
Spectre said Kennedy would have 10 minutes, Biden would have 10 minutes, and someone else, so I don't know if it's a shortened pound of flesh round or a complete show. Kennedy strode in. He limped out.
Tuned in to fox and caught the exchange. When Lindsey discussed the reams of letters of praise he received regarding Judge Alito and how has conducted himself throughout his career she completely lost it. She left just as he apologized to the Judge and his family having to sit through the dispicable line of questioning they've endured and he too got teary eyed. Definitely MUST SEE TV!
Alito, a 1972 Princeton graduate, says he can't recall joining the group and that he may have supported it because it opposed the expulsion of military training on campus during the Vietnam War. He said he wasn't aware until recent weeks that two prominent alumni, former Senator Bill Bradley, a New Jersey Democrat, and Senate Republican Leader Bill Frist, had denounced the group. If I had been involved actively in any way in the group, I'm sure that I would remember that," Alito testified.
Alito's wife, Martha, began to cry and left the hearing room as the issue came up again. She wiped a tear from one eye when South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham, a supporter of the nomination, was trying to debunk suggestions that her husband shared the group's view.
Are you really a closet bigot?" Graham said.
I am not any kind of bigot, I'm not," Alito replied. "No sir, you're not," Graham said. "You seem to be a decent, honorable man."
"Graham's statement brought out some long-held emotions about how he was being characterized," said former Indiana Senator Dan Coats, who was assisting the Bush administration on Alito's nomination.
"Her emotions just caught up with her after 2 1/2 days of hearing her husband's record mischaracterized," Coats said. Alito's wife returned to the hearing room after the committee's late afternoon break.
Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito shares a moment with his wife Martha after returning from a lunch break during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill, Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006 in Washington.
I am not a violent person
FF: Oh come now... you asked for a HAMMER! lol
Yeah just in time for a recess! I can't wait for the talking heads to start digging into this disgusting act by the dimocrats. But you know, I wish we had done this kind of stuff to Ginsberg,Kennedy,Souter. If we had maybe this one would not have been as important.

I'd love to believe he was embarrassed but that would assume the man has a conscience.
