I believe that about as much as I believe Frist won't tolerate any delay.
I have already seen and heard anti-Alito ads on TV and radio in L.A., but have yet to see word one from Coulter, Kristol, Frum, and the rest of the conservative pundits. Rush and Hannity are doing a good job defending Alito, though.
As for FReeperdom, I don't see the slightest spark of true fight, just a lot of typical complaining about Biden, Kennedy, Schumer, Leahy, et al.
The same "real" conservatives who claimed they were spoiling for a fight back in September, rolled over when Specter agreed to delay the hearings to January. As far as I can see, they are rolling over now. Bunch of paper tigers.
heh :)
Please note I reserve my right as an American to harangue my representatives to get off their keisters and vote which could affect our bet. If you want I can go $5 or $10 at the same odds if you like ... Game? ;-)
Get over it.
Miers was withdrawn.
The President and conservatives have mended fences and are in agreement about Alito. Only a few people, such as yourself, cannot put all dispute in the past for the good we have before us in the present.
Doesn't Frist take his orders from Schumer?
Frist has not been able to discipline the RINO caucus, so there is little love for him.
However, I do think the complaints about him are a bit excessive in the thread. I have no doubt he'd have "pulled the trigger" if he had the 50 votes oringinally.
O.T. I was watching the Nightly news cast to see how they covered the hearings yesterday and came across Specter on ABC. He stated there would be no filibuster. It was striking because Specter isn't the sort to state unequivocally a position, he likes to make people guess.
The rollovers began as soon as Gingrich got caught with his member in his hand........He personally deflowered the Republican party.....
Get over yourself. My comments had nothing to do with Miers. You have a guilty conscience or something?
I want to know where the fight is -- you know, the fight so many conservatives said they wanted. Other than Rush, Hannity and Hugh Hewitt, I don't see or hear anyone coming to Alito's defense, let alone actually fighting for him. Prehaps this is because I live in L.A., so am far removed from the groups and pundits who might work and write on his behalf.
I fully expected a vigorous, noisy push-back against the Dems horse puckey with this nomination. So far, no push-back.
Historically, congressional Republicans have rolled over since at least the Eisenhower terms, but we're talking about the here and now. Just a short time ago, conservatives said they were spoiling for a fight. Where is it?
"I'm getting the distinct feeling that Frist is not the most popular bloke in Washington among FReepers..."
It's the senate, itself. Remember when Trent Lott was outed? The FR wanted any excuse to get him out of the majority. I'm not a big Lott fan, myself. But the real problem is the majority of the senate.
With only 1/3rd of senators up for re-election every two years, change comes slowly in that body. And with the rapid flow of information and the rapid shift of political pressures, the senate is that much more frustrating than normal.
That same slowness may have spared our republic multiple times in decades past. But perhaps, once the immigration flow stabalizes and our new voters have time to get informed, maybe we could consider speeding up the senate re-election process. Of course, raising campaign funds in California would be some task if done legally....
"I have already seen and heard anti-Alito ads on TV and radio in L.A., but have yet to see word one from Coulter, Kristol, Frum, and the rest of the conservative pundits."
Maybe they're watching the hearing? If I were one of them, I'd want to do a little bit of research before offering an opinion. Rush, Hannity, and Savage don't feel like they have that luxury.
And if you think this forum would sit back idly if the rats filibustered Ali-oto, you got another thing coming. We would team up with talk radio and the Terri Schindler/Schiavo controversy would be next to nothing compared with this. That was just one innocent victim. Multiply that by 40 million, add a 'liberal' heaping of Kelo, and you will realise how hard we would fight.

Do not insult my intelligence. The conservatives YOU name, the reference back to Sept, and your posting history all sum up the catty comments at "real" conservatives are directly related to Miers. Guilty Consceince? Hell no. Guilt over doing the right thing? Never. Knowledge of your inability to move past that disagreement, oh yes, that I have. Just because you didn't use her name doesn't mean that isn't what your post was about.
And, btw, I'm looking at a live Thread today near 3000 posts so far. What do you think this indicates? Boredom? Cowardice? No, what it indicates is attention is being paid so IF necessary arms will be brought. So far, we don't need to expend firepower. You should be grateful that is the circumstance. You should be grateful the Republicans are nuking the Dems attacks before we have to jump in, as they so far have done. You should be grateful Alito is so superior to the Dems that he's giving them and their pals in the MSM little to use against him.
But I take it you are not. Too bad. As for myself, I'm catching up on the day and looks like Alito held his own well as I had little doubt he would. I'm proud of this nominee, I will defend this nominee as is needed even while battling the flu and working a full day.
You may have the last word, if you wish it. I've already moved on.
I do think exactly that. I've seen nothing yet to disabuse me of that opinion. In case you're wondering why I'm pushing on this matter, it's because I think Judge Alito is well worth the fight. Boxer and Feinstein are my senators (barf). They are hopeless, but I enjoy calling their offices to speak my piece anyway. I call the Judiciary Committee staff, too.
Yah, tough guy for president. About as effective as the UN.
Yeah, right. I'll bet he's also claiming to have grown a spine.
What's a cubit?
Isn't that a breakfast cereal?
The repubes Do Not want to lead. My mother could do a better job.
If the Republicans were an NFL team, no one would show up to watch their lame performance and their high school QB. They Are Pathetic!!!!!!
Bingo!
Take your own advice and don't insult mine.
So far, we don't need to expend firepower.
Yeah, sure.
But I take it you are not.
You take wrong. I think Judge Alito is superb and think he is worth fighting for, so I've called my two useless senators and the Judiciary Committee staff to speak up for him.
I'm proud of this nominee, I will defend this nominee as is needed even while battling the flu and working a full day.
I'm proud of the nominee, too, and I'm not whining about all the reasons why I couldn't pick up a phone and speak on his behalf.
You may have the last word, if you wish it. I've already moved on.
Gee willikers. Now isn't that just ducky of you. Personally, I think it makes a great deal of sense. Fight with me instead of with the Dems, then duck out before you get a bruise or two. Typical of "real" conservatives who yell and scream the loudest then aren't there when the chips are down.
