American singer and activist Harry Belafonte called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world" on Sunday and said millions of Americans support the socialist revolution of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez.
Belafonte led a delegation of Americans including the actor Danny Glover and the Princeton University scholar Cornel West that met the Venezuelan president for more than six hours late Saturday in Caracas. Some in the group attended Chavez's television and radio broadcast Sunday.
"No matter what the greatest tyrant in the world, the greatest terrorist in the world, George W. Bush says, we're here to tell you: Not hundreds, not thousands, but millions of the American people ... support your revolution," Belafonte told Chavez during the broadcast.
The 78-year-old Belafonte, famous for his calypso-inspired music, including the "Day-O" song, was a close collaborator of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and is now a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. He also has been outspoken in criticizing the U.S. embargo of Cuba.
Chavez said he believes deeply in the struggle for justice by blacks, both in the U.S. and Venezuela.
"Although we may not believe it, there continues to be great discrimination here against black people," Chavez said, urging his government to redouble its efforts to prevent discrimination.
Belafonte accused U.S. news media of falsely painting Chavez as a "dictator," when in fact, he said, there is democracy and citizens are "optimistic about their future."
Dolores Huerta, a pioneer of the United Farm Workers labor union also in the delegation, called the visit a "very deep experience."
Chavez accuses Bush of trying to overthrow him, pointing to intelligence documents released by the U.S. indicating that the CIA knew beforehand that dissident officers planned a short-lived 2002 coup. The U.S. denies involvement, but Chavez says Venezuela must be on guard.
Belafonte suggested setting up a youth exchange for Venezuelans and Americans. He finished by shouting in Spanish: "Viva la revolucion!"
"Is this flaming jackass even a US citizen?"
Not by my definition. I believe Belafonte lives in NY. I wonder if he was in his Upper Manhattan NY home on 9/11? Hiding under the couch maybe? What a lying coward Belafonte is - typical attribute of communists. Ed Asner is another of my favorite demented communists.
Through extensive double secret searching, I found the originally intended lyrics of Harry's 'Banana Boat Song.'
Hugo mon gonna give me free banana.
Fidel come and he promise free rice.
I'll eat them in my state provided cabana.
Fidel come and he promise free rice.
Got rich singin' so I think everything comes easy.
Fidel say capitalism is vice.
No need to work hard like George and Weasey.
Fidel say capitalism is vice.
It's Six Million, Seven Million, Eight Million, DEAD!
Fidel and Che say don't think twice.
Six Million, Seven Million, Eight Million, DEAD!
Fidel and Che say don't think twice.
Economics and history don't mean a thing.
State will provide ev ry thing.
Chavez gonna give me all a my bling.
State will provide ev ry thing.
"Who you ridin', Preacher?"
: )
When it gets right down to it, what these people suffer from is intellectual and leadership envy. They have been elevated to a certain status ONLY because of their (in many cases limited) artistic ability and are not satisfied with what they have been given.
They are NOT statesmen, NOT intellectuals, but 'entertainers' with a big fat mouth and a big soapbox.
Then again, I suppose being an emissary of the United Nations requires a certain degree of febrile America-hatred and ingratitude.
(Denny Crane: "I Don't Want To Socialize With A Pinko Liberal Democrat Commie. Say What You Like About Republicans. We Stick To Our Convictions. Even When We Know We're Dead Wrong.")
It's moments like this that make me glad I illegally downloaded my copy of the "Banana Boat Song (day-o)." As an obvious socialist, Mr. Belafonte SHOULD approve. ;-)

Barry Hellafonte again?
Harry Belafonte is nothing but a 'boy'. I couldn't care less what he says.
But when 'Rats take a treasonous stance in Washington ... but nothing happens to them ... I become very afraid for our Republic.

Harry is right about this. These supporters are called the Democrat Party.
Come on NewsMax, do us a favor ,say it like it is:
"Communist Singer Harry Belafonte Calls Bush a Terrorist"
I'd call this guy a scumbag but that might offend bags filled with scum.
At one time, people like Harry Belafonte would be locked away for their own good and seriously medicated to control their emotions. Today, we just let them run wild.
One can only hope that Chavez and Belafonte are out sightseeing on an old Grumman G-73 airplane.
Shoot the bastard.....
