American singer and activist Harry Belafonte called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world" on Sunday and said millions of Americans support the socialist revolution of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez.
Belafonte led a delegation of Americans including the actor Danny Glover and the Princeton University scholar Cornel West that met the Venezuelan president for more than six hours late Saturday in Caracas. Some in the group attended Chavez's television and radio broadcast Sunday.
"No matter what the greatest tyrant in the world, the greatest terrorist in the world, George W. Bush says, we're here to tell you: Not hundreds, not thousands, but millions of the American people ... support your revolution," Belafonte told Chavez during the broadcast.
The 78-year-old Belafonte, famous for his calypso-inspired music, including the "Day-O" song, was a close collaborator of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and is now a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. He also has been outspoken in criticizing the U.S. embargo of Cuba.
Chavez said he believes deeply in the struggle for justice by blacks, both in the U.S. and Venezuela.
"Although we may not believe it, there continues to be great discrimination here against black people," Chavez said, urging his government to redouble its efforts to prevent discrimination.
Belafonte accused U.S. news media of falsely painting Chavez as a "dictator," when in fact, he said, there is democracy and citizens are "optimistic about their future."
Dolores Huerta, a pioneer of the United Farm Workers labor union also in the delegation, called the visit a "very deep experience."
Chavez accuses Bush of trying to overthrow him, pointing to intelligence documents released by the U.S. indicating that the CIA knew beforehand that dissident officers planned a short-lived 2002 coup. The U.S. denies involvement, but Chavez says Venezuela must be on guard.
Belafonte suggested setting up a youth exchange for Venezuelans and Americans. He finished by shouting in Spanish: "Viva la revolucion!"
I call Belafonte an old imbecile..
But,but-he would send to the wall all the socialists and----wait a second, would that be a bad thing or a good thing?
um, yeah....they're called democrats.
Sure discrimination exists, in America and everywhere else in the world.
However, Belafonte is the greatest example of opportunity and freedom in the US. He has no talent, yet he's made money and he is free to run his mouth and slander the leader of his country.
Wish he had to live under Chavez all of his life. Bet he'd be singin' a different tune.
Okaay everybody - thanks for all your emails: YOU CAN STOP NOW.
The rhyming-word is 'boron'. No! Seriously! Really! It is! Honest! Pinkie-swear and everything! :D
Please stop.
Some thread require picture of person being discussed.
On Belafonte threads we require the answer to the question:
Is anyone familiar with ANYTHING that he has done besides 'day-o'?
Anyone?
What a one-note-Johnny he is.
Belafonte is a terrorist sympathizer.
"Princeton University scholar Cornel West "
Scholar??????
R O T F L M A O
We have a Christmas CD of his. We own it because my husband grew up listening to him. So, I think of a lot of Christmas music when I think of him. :-/ UGH
Yup, sure wish there could be a means of revoking their passports while they are in the socialist paradise of Venezuela and forcing them to stay there!!! WHy should we have to allow such traitors back to our shores? They hate and loathe American and everything we stand for, so why don't they just make their homes with their socialist brethren in Venezuela or Cuba or Zimbabwe and leave us all alone to enjoy our depraved capitalist world?
bellafonteeee is a hasbeen. So there. How does he like that?
I expect people to mean what they say. Belafonte gets no respect from me for telling me he is a Marxist socialist. None. Nada. He is a turd and a traitor.
Ditto!!!!
"failing to enforce the security of our country through border control is."
Right on target, Stu!
wagglbee....I am getting the impression that George Soros has told the dems and celebrities...that the more they go out and give "treasonous" speeches...
and this includes Murtha, Kerry and other politicians...
that the American people will become "used" to them..and will just start IGNORING THEM!!!!
Then, we will be surprised when these "students" from Venezuela that Belafonte and Chavez want "exhanged" for Americans will rise up in a coup attempt against OUR government...
and THEN, like with 9/11 and Al-queda, everyone will ask:
WHAT HAPPENED, WHERE DID THESE PEOPLE COME FROM?????
These are very scary times...and not enough people are paying attention, I am afraid.
ABC/Reuters broadcasts the insane hate-speech from very evil and demented notable persons like Harry Belafonte.
Outrageous!
There are many people who believe this tripe so he will get plenty of "attaboys" from these type of folks. I had to listen to an "environmental specialist" (a janitor) from my college rant and rave like a fool about how Bush should be impeached because he "murdered" those Black people in NOLA. Of course, by that standard, Clinton should have been impeached because of all the Black people he failed to help in Rwanda and Uganda. I tell you. Some people aren't worth the oxygen to argue with because they are so pathetically ignorant. Harry Bellafonte is one of them.
I believe that something needs to be done very quickly about Castro, Chavez, and other anti-American dictators in our hemisphere. We have the ability to destroy them economically within a very short period of time, and we need to do it.
Isn't this kind of talk called Sedition? Perhaps it's time we called it what it is.
Harry Belafonte is the Left's 'house nigger'.
What a piece of work he is.
