US Jews weigh in ahead of Alito hearings By MATTHEW E. BERGER / JTA WASHINGTON

Amid the Hanukka parties and the New Year festivities, the organized Jewish community has been gearing up to make itself heard on the next nominee for the US Supreme Court.
Several Jewish organizations already have spoken out against Judge Samuel Alito Jr., who will go before the Senate Judiciary Committee for confirmation hearings this week. Those groups and others are pushing key lawmakers to ask pointed questions about Alito's record on abortion and the separation of church and state.
The goal is to prevent the feeling many in Washington had last year about the nomination of Chief Justice John Roberts - that it was a fait accompli.
Alito is considered a more controversial jurist, with a longer record that has raised concerns among liberal groups, including the National Council of Jewish Women and the Union for Reform Judaism. Both organizations, who announced their opposition to Alito last year, are getting members in touch with key senators, pushing them to reject Alito.
Eleanor Levie, an NCJW leader in Pennsylvania, met with Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pennsylvania), who chairs the Judiciary Committee. Specter assured Levie and others that he would raise the issue of reproductive rights and executive-power questions with Alito when hearings begin January 9.
"Specter's staff was very interested in the probing questions we want raised," Levie said.
The organization plans to reach out to other lawmakers, including Senator Joseph Lieberman (D-Connecticut), a moderate Democrat and one of 14 moderates who likely will decide whether the nominee is filibustered. NCJW members planned last week to present the Connecticut offices of Lieberman and Senator Christopher Dodd (D-Connecticut) with a petition, asking them to oppose Alito.

This is a liberal pro-abortion front group, whose members would be more comfortable at a Cindy Sheehan rally than at a Pro-Israel rally or at a Torah class. They are like the Jews of 50 years ago that rallied for the Rosenbergs of civil rights but not for the Holocaust. They are more likly to have an abortion than a child who makes aliyah.

Not all Jews are leftists.Many of us reject alleged Jewish organizations that speak for us.These organizations are not religeous and just use our religeon as a basis for their legadimacy.The Rosenbergs were traitors and got what they deserved.I and my family support Judge Alito.He is a great American.

They tried to make it seem that all Jews opposed him. When Jewish-Jewish groups like Agudah Israel wanted to speak on his behalf Joe Biden scheduled them on Shabbat when they could not testify.
Obviously this would not be an issue for left wingers like ncjw since they don't observe Judaism.Of course they testifeid during the week anyway.

C-span ran interviews with people who know Alito last night. They all admire him. It was so uplifting. We should spend more time admiring people who deserve it and less money drumming up propaganda by people who don't really know anything.
Now that's correct. There is nothing about their positions that is inherently Jewish about their positions, anymore than there is anything inherently Christian about many positions of the many "United" churches.
If they were honest, they would call themselves the National Council of Some Jewish Women but Not Others.
Don't get me wrong, the man DOES have strong convictions, and beliefs in right and wrong. He excoriated Hollywood and those who made "The Last Temptation of Christ" when it was released, and asked his congregation to NOT see the movie. He said that there was no reason for the movie, other than to offend Christians. But in the last few years, he's gotten more and more radical in his leftist views, at least as far as his opinion pieces go.

Machiavelli has done his job. As a result, the Prince of Darkness is rewarded with a reign of four more years over a democracy that his first four years had already begun to dismantle. How did the Rover accomplish this in the face of facts, which revealed the total failure on every front of the Prince's first term? The answer is simple (and many voters are simple-minded): lies, lies, lies over and over and over again.
Were there weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? No, no, no said commission after commission. But the Prince of Vice, clear up to election day, kept reiterating the lie that the WMDs were there, all right. And you know what? A recent study by the University of Maryland's Program on International Policy Attitudes reveals that 72 percent of Prince supporters believe that Iraq either had actual WMDs or a major development program for them.
What had the Patriot Act done under the jurisdiction of the Torquemada anointed by the Prince? It was and is conducting secret searches without warrants of homes and computers and libraries. It is imprisoning people without charge for long periods of time, without access to any legal consultation. Five thousand people are being held at Guantanamo on suspicion of terrorism. Not one has been convicted.
Was Abu Ghraib a fact? The Inquisitorial torture of its prisoners was filmed by the torturers themselves for all the world to see. What the world saw were American soldiers engaged in ugly, bloodcurdling acts of sadism and brutality in the land to which they were sent to subdue a tyrant and to implement the human rights of its citizens. Who was responsible for what happened in Abu Ghraib? According to Dandy Don, minister of war to the Prince of Darkness, nobody!
"In times of war," he said, "things happen." They sure do. Some 20,000 Iraqis, more than half of them civilian men, women and children, were slaughtered. Over 1,100 American soldiers are dead and thousands of others are crippled for life.
Thumping his chest and swaggering his walk, Machiavelli's Prince boasted at every campaign appearance that under him, a draft dodger, the "War on Terror" would end in the triumph of Good over Evil and that he alone may be entrusted to keep America safe. And what do the facts say? They say that terrorism and al-Qaida have proliferated around the world after the invasion of Iraq, that our army is in a deep morass from which extrication may be impossible and that no planning for America's post-war in Iraq had been done at all, even with the genius of a female Rasputin acting as the whisperer-in-chief into the ears of the Prince himself.
Why was the war on Iraq begun in the first place? To get at the terrorists in that country who could who could be in America with their nuclear materials to wipe all of us out. Al-Qaida was not in Iraq. Osama bin Laden was not there. But there was a lot of oil in Iraq, and the oil fields were what our soldiers were ordered to protect first. Just before the Prince was anointed, it was discovered that a huge cache of arms had been stolen from a site after our soldiers had visited there. There is little doubt that they are in the hands of the people Machiavelli has chosen to call "terrorists" and "insurgents." These people are fighting for the right of their country to be rid of foreign invaders.
Who will now be the most potent force ruling us for (at least) the next four years? It will be the gaggle of "religious" fanatics who, like their Prince, pretend to speak in the name of God. They love "moral values" which, among other things, to them means fighting for the fetus while exhibiting little concern for the living or for life itself. Their definition of moral values bears the imprint of God's proverbial adversary, Satan himself.
Thinking Americans, resign yourselves to the reign of the Prince of Darkness, but work like hell to thwart him at every turn. Now that would be the Will of God.
