Mystery over London bomber's '£120,000 estate'
London Telegraph ^ | 1/7/06 | Philip Johnston and Paul Stokes

Claims that one of the July 7 suicide bombers left a six-figure fortune mystified investigators last night.

A report in The Sun said that Shehzad Tanweer, 22, who detonated a bomb on the Underground at Aldgate station, killing eight people, had an estate valued at £121,000 net of taxes and debts.

Yet Tanweer, a British national of Pakistani descent, was a student until 2004 and worked for a few hours a week as an assistant in the fish and chip shop run by his father in Beeston, Leeds.

Questions were being asked how he could possess assets of such value.

The report came as a complete surprise to security officials who have spent the past six months investigating every aspect of Tanweer's life in an effort to discover why he took part in the atrocity and whether the terrorist cell was being run from overseas.

In the two years before the attack, Tanweer is known to have visited Pakistan at least twice with his fellow conspirator, Mohammed Siddique Khan.

There is no clear picture about what he did there and who he contacted, though it is believed he spent time at a terrorist training camp run by the Harkat-ul-Mujahedeen group in Mansehra, near the Kashmir border, where he was trained in handling arms and explosives.

Security sources now believe that Tanweer was a more "serious player" than had first been appreciated. But there is no evidence of any direct involvement of al-Qa'eda in the atrocity, though it bore all the marks of one of its operations.

If Tanweer possessed a six-figure sum, it could provide a financial trail leading back to a mastermind of the operation. Investigators were planning further inquiries into his financial background.

At the family home in Leeds, his mother, Parveen Akhtar Tanweer, was unwilling to answer questions about the reports, which quoted a spokesman for the probate office in London as saying: "We have no information as to what the estate was worth before [deductions were] made. The only people who will know are the family and the solicitors."

Neighbours said the family had kept to themselves since Tanweer was named as one of the four bombers who murdered 52 people and injured more than 700.

A man who did not want to be named said: "I don't know if they have got all this money or not but, if they have, they certainly haven't been broadcasting it around the neighbourhood. They are a very private family and want to be left alone to get on with their lives the best they can."

Tanweer was buried in the family's home village of Samoondran in the Punjab region of Pakistan in October. It is thought that more than 300 people attended the funeral. At the time his father, Mohammed Mumtaz Tanweer, 56, said: "As far as I can understand, my son was more British in his orientation than anything else.

"He had planned his career in sport. Even on the night before he died, he was playing cricket."

Maybe it would be a good idea to start tracking wire transfers to Muslims who fit the terrorist profile.

Don't you be saying stuff like that around anybody in the fish bowl with United States of America's President and Armed Forces Commander in Chief, George Walker Bush or next thing you know he'll be acting out his office and "illegally" ordering the NSA to start checking!

[Thank God! - and for him]

They use other methods of transferring cash than wire transfers

Simple methods

They long ago devised many ways to avoid taxes and launder cash and other assets and move huge amounts of money without being subject to government of international or domestic banking transfers ($10,000 US)

One was hiding messages or amounts of dates in graphics (silly & complicated & time consuming)

The simpler way is using the number of words in a paragraph (10 words - my first paragraph plus my second paragraph 2 words = 10/2 or $20,000 or an address #10 2nd Street or 5 to 9 digit zipcode or ?)

Or using every third word - or using numbers that relate to chapters &/or pages in a book or TV show on a certain channel

These are just a few ways of using similiar methods of coding or cyphering from many years past

An open post or a tagline on FR can hide a message to transfer $XX,000 of cash or money orders or traveler's checks to some name in Saudi Arabia or Bolivia or Kansas

In plain sight is the method most used - avoiding "keywords"

Emails and phone calls are too easily spotted and caught

-- But what do I know......

I don't know what the British can do but I'm sure that here some victims would be suing his estate.

I see you are aware

It's not rocket science

Most people are not

This is an old art Muslims have used

Some others in NYC and other areas use similiar techniques for moving cash, metals, and other obvious valuable items

Congress it seems does not know the game - except for the Klintoons, Kerry, Reid, and a few others using Rich/Soros laundering and offshore

The one I loved was the old "forgiven loan" scam in Little Rock - out in (too) plain sight - but somehow legal

Let's not forget that Hillary's brother illegally evaded taxes and moved a ton of (bribery/payoff) bucks to offshore bank accounts

Last I heard was he was "going to pay (some) back"

Hillary's "over $700,000 from Peter Paul" only cost her a dinky $35,000 FEC fine

Beats that "quick $100,000 from $1000 on cattle futures" with Tyson's help

And there is a guy in California doing life now for his 3rd strike for swiping a piece of pizza (I am for the "3 Strikes" law - but The Klintoons have perfected "Olympic skating")

"He had planned his career in sport. Even on the night before he died, he was playing cricket."

This is not the actions of an individual that is going to blow himself up the next day.

I think the evil bastar-s thought there was a delay from the time they started a detonation sequence. Not only did they murder they in all likely hood were also murdered to cover up the trail.

Some of my earlier FR posts profiled the two "Beltway Snipers" to 99.9% accuracy - right down to the dark colored plain high performance Chevy sedan - Muslims - ages - vet & younger partner

I did roughly locate the Unibomber in the NW boonies and guestimate his age, university background, social & sex life, firearms, agendas, quirks - I spent about 30 minutes on the phone with a woman who listened intently and recorded my call - "They" were (and often) inviting calls and they do listen - his "Manifesto" pretty much validated my guestimates

It's amazing how so many of these nutcases needs to contact the press and leave cryptic egotistical clues

I knew roughly where Eric Robert Rudoph was - I used to live in the WNC mountains - but Slick Willie could not find him with thousands chasing him

Some read mysteries - I like to logically figure out who & where some high profile creeps are

If I get the right "puzzle" I can do pretty darned well within a few days or weeks - most times I cannot see anything at all

Try it sometime -

I taught some classes in codes and cyphers and "other stuff" for a while at Ft. Jackson - I was also "too good" at poker with the others there

It served me well when I left the service and went into business - I can just about read the credit card balances and thoughts of a customer

At the time his father, Mohammed Mumtaz Tanweer, 56, said: "As far as I can understand, my son was more British in his orientation than anything else...

========

As Brother Rush would say, "Stop the tape!"

In speaking to a reporter fish and chip shop owner Mohammed Mumtaz Tanweer, probably an immigrant, has such a command of the English language as to use the word 'orientation' in a semi-casual conversation? Has such a level of education as to use such phraseology, again in a semi-casual conversation, as "As far as I can understand, my son was more British in his orientation than... ?"

In short, no matter what your level of education, if it was your kid that died would you have talked like this?

Yes, I might, if I were British. Detachment from an emotional issue is an British thing.

Also, many older people who grew up in the British Empire were educated in strict British schools where the standards of education were very high, frequently much higher than what prevails in England. They sometimes became more British than the British.
