Mudville Gazette has the details on an Army soldier who confronted Dem Reps. John Murtha and Jim Moran at a town hall meeting in Arlington, Va. Greyhawk transcribed the confrontation:
"Yes sir my name is Mark Seavey and I just want to thank you for coming up here. Until about a month ago I was Sgt Mark Seavey infantry squad leader, I returned from Afghanistan. My question to you, (applause)
"Like yourself I dropped out of college two years ago to volunteer to go to Afghanistan, and I went and I came back. If I didn't have a herniated disk now I would volunteer to go to Iraq in a second with my troops, three of which have already volunteered to go to Iraq. I keep hearing you say how you talk to the troops and the troops are demoralized, and I really resent that characterization. (applause) The morale of the troops that I talk to is phenomenal, which is why my troops are volunteering to go back, despite the hardships they had to endure in Afghanistan.
"And Congressman Moran, 200 of your constituents just returned from Afghanistan. We never got a letter from you; we never got a visit from you. You didn't come to our homecoming. The only thing we got from any of our elected officials was one letter from the governor of this state thanking us for our service in Iraq, when we were in Afghanistan. That's reprehensible. I don't know who you two are talking to but the morale of the troops is very high."
Moran - who is one of the few congressmen supporting Charlie Rangel's call to restore the draft - responded quickly: "That wasn't in the form of a question, it was in the form of a statement. But, uhh... let's go over here." And he took the next question.
Cut and run. It's the only way the Dems know.
So what - sometimes it is necessary to stand up and be counted. ...it is necessary to get in the face of idiots.
So Seavey said he had a question yet failed to ask one.
Made himself look just as idiotic as the idiots he was confronting.
IMHO, if you say you have a question, then you should ASK a question.
Go ahead and ask a HARD question that'll make 'em squirm.
But don't just rant without asking a question that you said you were going to ask.
Cripes, that just makes you look like any other babbling boob.
But with the invitation to Murtha, the meeting gained national attention on the Internet. The Web site http://www.freerepublic.com urged supporters of staying the course in Iraq to go out and protest, and groups such as MoveOn.org sent e-mails to opponents of the war urging them to attend.
Murtha is making the mistake of thinking that his own experience is comprehensive enough. If he really were to talk to enough soldiers, and not just in Iraq alone, he might be more optimistic. But he has gotten old and is no longer open to contrarian thought.
Any audio? Could Rush get ahold of this?
ping
And Neither Moran or Murtha took the time to thank him for his service?
When Klintoon did exactly that, how many know what damage was done by doing so? A message of how we are viewed by terrorist.
The following paragraphs from bin Ladens 1996 Fatwa offer some insight to this question:
...[snip]...
But your most disgraceful case was in Somalia; where-after vigorous propaganda about the power of the USA and its post cold war leadership of the new world order - you moved tens of thousands of international force, including twenty eight thousands American solders into Somalia. However, when tens of your solders were killed in minor battles and one American Pilot was dragged in the streets of Mogadishu you left the area carrying disappointment, humiliation, defeat and your dead with you. Clinton appeared in front of the whole world threatening and promising revenge , but these threats were merely a preparation for withdrawal. You have been disgraced by Allah and you withdrew; the extent of your impotence and weaknesses became very clear. It was a pleasure for the heart of every Muslim and a remedy to the chests of believing nations to see you defeated in the three Islamic cities of Beirut , Aden and Mogadishu.
Moral of the story:
Let's play hard-ball!!!
And take no prisoners...
This tactic is from the play book of John Kerry, Che Guevarra, John Murtha, The ACLU, Fidel, Chavez, Bin Laden, Ramzi Yousef (WTC Part 1), Mohammed Atta (WTC Part 2, the sequel), et al.
I heard that Gen. Pace condemned Murtha for causing low morale among some troops. Can you or anyone else confirm that - I'm pretty sure that's what I heard on the news butI was half asleep.
I wouldn't use the word "condemn", but rebuke and challenge are apropos. It is very, very rare for a military officer to openly confront the words of a politician, but Gen Pace took Murtha to task. Later, Murtha told the media that Gen Pace confided in him.
"Peter Pace told me this last night: They know militarily they can't win this," Murtha said.
Murtha Denies Causing Recruitment Woes
Either Murtha is out and out lying, or he is derranged. Gen Pace has decided to let him get away with that lie to save face and crawl away (or so it seems).
What is motivating Murtha to publicly shame himself and put US soldiers at risk? To be kind, you might say he's delusional, but his behavior is far worse. This is a cut and run operation and he knows perfectly well what he's done. Murtha's name should be right up there with Benedict Arnold. So who's Murtha's 'Peggy Shippen' and where's his 'British army promotion'? What does the dem party have on him?
I give this patriot a big 'Thank You' for confronting two of the Al Quida Representatives in the House of Representatives!
I heard Pace condemn Murtha, too, and it sounded as if Pace wasn't going to let the matter drop.
Murtha's behavior sounds worse than just getting old. It's the behavior of a man who's hiding something and thinks this will get him off the hook. Not honorable in any sense of the word.
Murtha took Pace's comments totally out of context. What he basically said was that victory would include the military, but it would also require the other things we are doing, like training the Iraqi security forces, rebuilding the infrastructure, nurturing the political process, etc.
move-on.org talked several vets to show up. I can understand having a difference of opinion, but to go there because move-on.org ordered you to is proof that these were not vets or that they did not serve in Iraq or Afghanistan
Kaplan's paen to the SF, "Imperial Grunt" has a pore sophistic ated take on "military" means. The military has always relied on more than blunt force. Afghanistan is more typical of what our military interventions will be. He raises an intersting questioin, BTW, what happens when Yeman starts to run out of oil?
Yes, tonight I heard Pace clearly state that what Murtha said was damaging to the morale of some troops and their families as well as an encouragement to the enemy. I think Gen. Pace said it about as strongly as any top brass could -- but then again he's the first MARINE to hold that position! It's very refreshing to see and hear someone who doesn't want to wave the white flag of surrender (a la Murtha et al.) and tell young people they should NOT enlist. There was a time when such over the top rhetoric would be considered unpatriotic. But now the liberals have made the specious charge " Are YOU challenging MY patriotism? That's UNAMERICAN!" so toxic that the truth can't be told even when some ARE giving aid and comfort to the enemy. It's not an accusation to be made lightly -- but look at the facts and what some are very clearly saying and doing.
