LANCASTER - An apartment complex near Avenue K and Gadsden Avenue in Lancaster was cordoned off as deputies searched for a suspected sniper who is believed to have shot at three deputies Thursday night.
A Lancaster Sheriff's Department team originally responded around 9 p.m. to a report of a shot fired that shattered a display window at the Lancaster Auto Mall's Suzuki Mazda dealership, in the 43000 block of Drivers Way.
The dealership's employees called 911. Upon arriving, the trio of deputies sent onto the scene said there was no other evidence of any other shots fired.
The rest of the team was dispatched off the scene.
As the trio continued the investigation, several shots rang out over the deputies' heads from across the street.
"It appears apparent to investigators that this shooting was a setup," said Lancaster Sheriff's Station Commander Capt. Carl Deeley.
When asked if it was a sniper, Deeley said, "That's exactly what it was.'
The deputies were not hit, but were pinned down by several rounds of gunfire, Deeley said.
The weapon is believed to be a 22-caliber rifle.

crazy
Motorists began getting frustrated around 10 p.m. because they were sitting in a line of cars along Gadsden Avenue and couldn't get out. Some had been waiting 45 minutes or longer. Comments such as "You're keeping us in a war zone. Let us out," were heard.
Stephanie Scheasley, who was sitting on her car, waiting to leave, said she was there helping her sister Samantha move out of the Amargosa Creek Apartments, just across the way. Samantha said, "This happens all the time here."
[shaking head]
well if it happens all the time they should not stop the traffic
Never heard of this kind of thing back when I lived in Lancaster (1970's).
Obviously these weren't very proficient snipers, thank goodness.

Every nut with a gun is always a sniper in these idiots eyes. If the shooter was a sniper, we'd have several dead cops right now. I hope the cops do catch the shooter but I wish these media prostitutes would use the proper phrasing for what they are dealing with instead of hyping it up.

Seriously. Snipers who missed all three shots. They were probably throwing fire crackers, not shooting.
Or maybe they were just very loud farts. :D~
The part about random snipers (sending one round to trigger the response, then opening fire) happening all the time is B.S. But general gun violence and closed roads do happen all the time, these days.
You wouldn't even recognize the A.V. now!
Like Steve Martin in the jerk...
He hates Mazdas!!! He hates Mazdas!!!
Oh, good luck! she said smarmily :-)
Actually, last night on scanner, one unit asked dispatch to send help in dealing with the press. She said they were "being Adam Henrys."
LOL!

I agree on principle, and the AV Press is particularly heinous and dishonest, but in this case, when the station commander declares it so, what else are they supposed to do?
A Sheriff's car went racing past me on the 14 last night around Vista Point. Unusual to see their cars using full lights and sirens on the freeway. I guessing he or she was headed for this call.
