Three More NBC Affiliates Nix 'Daniel'

Three Kansas NBC affiliates have announced they will not be carrying NBC’s "The Book of Daniel.” KSNG in Garden City, KSNC in Great Bend and KSNK in Oberlin have responded to community concern and will not air the program.

They join KNSW-TV in Wichita, Kan., KARK-TV in Little Rock, Ark. and WTWO in Terre Haute, Ind., in refusing to carry NBC’s new series.

American Family Association (AFA) says that NBC has received more than 600,000 emails protesting the program.

After viewing the first episode at WBIR in Knoxville, several religious leaders gave their views on the program. Brian Kearns, minister at Lighthouse Christian Church, said, "I think it’s very demeaning to Christianity. It’s an assault on the Christian faith.”

Rev. Tom Seay of the Bearden United Methodist Church, described it as "just a pretty sorry piece of work.” Dale Powers of the Catholic Diocese of Knoxville said "You’re portraying something as normal that is just absurd.” And Rev. John Stuart said, "What the show has done is demean my faith. You’ve diminished the person I worship ... you’ve wounded me.”

Donald E. Wildmon, chairman of AFA, said NBC is running the program despite the loss of millions of dollars in advertising revenue. "Advertisers are shying away from the program,” Wildmon stated. "But NBC’s hostility to Christians and Christianity runs deep.”

The program’s main characters include Daniel Webster, a drug-addicted Episcopal priest; his alcoholic wife; his son, a 23-year-old homosexual Republican; his daughter, a 16-year-old drug dealer; a 16-year-old adopted son who is having sex with the bishop's daughter; his lesbian secretary who is sleeping with his sister-in-law; and a very unconventional white-robed, bearded Jesus who reassures the priest that his drug-dealing daughter and promiscuous son are good kids.

According to media reports, it is written by Jack Kenny, a practicing homosexual, who describes himself as being "in Catholic recovery,” interested in Buddhist teachings about reincarnation, and not sure exactly how he defines God and/or Jesus. "I don't necessarily know that all the myth surrounding him (Jesus) is true,” he said.

Christmas, a singular event that recognizes the birth of Jesus, the Christ Child, is celebrated by as many as 96% of Americans, most of whom are churchgoing, patriotic Americans, with strong faith that co-exists with love of their country.

The Founders, whose high-minded, decent, Biblical, absolute moral principles.... around which our Constitution was fashioned as the raison d'etre for a government built upon the rock of freedom......had escaped the bonds of religious persecution, and were motivated by religious freedom when framing the structure of the nascent country.....so much so that the right to freely practice religion as we please is the First of Ten Amendments which guarantees all Americans their inalienable Bill of Rights.

As the disintegration of Western civilization continues, under the seige of secularism, it becomes clearer that straying from our Christian birthright, and the Founders' principles, endangers our freedoms, and our government, and is forcing us to relive the savagery of the past, away from the distinctly American values the Founders envisioned.

Christians must act precipitously. The restoration of American culture is in the hands of Christians. Christians have to try harder to protect not only our religious freedoms, but our political freedoms, and our government, as well. And Christians have the numbers, the force, and the motivation with which to do so.

The continued attacks on Christianity, and the foundations of Christianity, in our legislatures, our schools, our courts, and in the public square, sets the stage for the task ahead.

You just want to be in charge of what other people watch on TV. You want to remove choices from someone, because you are offended. Too bad, its still America, not a theocracy.
Did you even watch the show, or are you relying on group think to make up your mind?

Go play Taliban somewhere else, where its still allowed.

What really bothers you is the free speech of Christians who have every right to be offended by this disgusting show.

The same reaction would have happened in the Jewish community if they had made the minister and his family about a rabbi, or in the islamic community if this had been the family of a mullah.

Somebody explained it perfectly yesterday when the compared this to the subtle propaganda against Jews in pre-nazi era leading into full hatred. This is what Hollywood is trying with Christianity....you know Christianity that evil religion that the founders used to find our freedoms we enjoy today the basis for our society. Gee, I wonder why somebody is trying to destroy the basis for our society.

I agree 100% with your position. I grew up in an era where we all had the right to be irresponsible but chose not to be so foolishly immature. My business mentor 30 years ago stood on principle even at the expense of equity, listened to and respected all sides of an argument even when a decision had already been made. Over the long haul that attitude prevails, and I have with varying degrees of success tried to emulate him. The point here is that this man wasn't unique 30 years ago, but today Jack Welch seems to hold this station alone.

In my opinion media, whether Hollywood or the fourth estate is acting grossly irresponsible, but, they have the right to do so. I have great trepidation that some would prefer laws to stifle their activity. Others rant about their actions and that does absolutely nothing except bring attention to the show, which in return bolsters the Neilson ratings and benefits the guys performing the disservice to humankind that we are against. The stereotypical vicious circle!

I am of the belief that we should just ignore these things. I'm not saying people shouldn't have discussion on the topic, I'm just suggesting we don't appear rabid while doing it. It is impossible to garner press with an argument that the other side is ignoring.

Unless liberalism chemically alters the brain stem of humans, I have faith that the vast majority of people strive to be good and will do the right thing.

Lately people have started using feigned indignation, emotive-passionate anecdotes and plain old bald-face-lying with straight faces to make their points. I get the feeling from watching political news and reading forums like FR that people have the opinion that the loudest and last argument is the winner, the conqueror... the vanquisher.

My children and grandchildren are living proof that this premise is not true. They have been exposed to all of this tripe, yet their common sense, their internal gyro-scope, if you will allow that term, keeps them upright and on the right path.

I really don't want to get philosophical here, but I am becoming more and more convinced that the apprehension, fear or panic that people have about any antagonist is based upon more than simple disagreement. I'm beginning to think they really believe their loved ones are not strong enough to fend off this barrage of irresponsibility.

Why they believe that is a completely different discussion.

The problem isn't with the "Believers" being insulted, as much as the damage it causes them when those who are NOT informed get their information from a false or biased source.

I haven't read The Protocols of the Elders of Zion and I haven't heard of any documentary of such name, so I really cannot speak intelligently about it, but according to a dozen reviews I have read this afternoon... it is one of the most infamous, and tragically influential, examples of racist propaganda ever written. It is unquestionably propaganda, but is unmistakably useful as a tool in the teaching of the history of anti-Semitism.

Fahrenheit 911 and Bowling for Columbine are both shows that I have seen, F9/11 with my two youngest children, and based upon dinner table discussion my two oldest have seen it also. Yet somehow miraculously, all of us voted for George W. Bush instead of John Kerry.

I'm reasonably certain that had I seen The Protocols of the Elders of Zion that I wouldn't have converted to Islam, grown a beard, skinned my head or started wearing swastikas.

It appears to me that there is the hint of suggestion in your post that people should obtain information only from sources approved by you and your friends. (since we are both Freepers I take it as a given that we are friends that simply don't know each other, at least we obviously have much in common)

Now I agree that people shouldn't go running around teaching kids that 2+2=5, but that's a special case as our children are exposed to 2+2=4 much more often and does oversimplify the problem. However, it is a perfect example of the solution to the problem.

Drag some guy off the street that you deem to be mindless or sit with your children and actually watch F911. It sucks! It is misleading! You are correct in your description of Michael Moore, at least from my viewpoint of life. Discuss the show, give your opinion of it, point out the fallacies within it. Then hand them a book or DVD documentary that supports the other side of the argument.

If you are suggesting that people you know and love only get their information from Jon Stewart... the problem doesn't lie with Mr. Stewart.

Welllllll, I watched the thing because to be honest, I wanted to put it down, and wanted to do it honestly. It did not disappoint.

The Book of Daniel, was IMO, the 2006 version of "SOAP" or "MARY HARTMAN MARY HARTMAN ", only with no morals or respect and uses as much shock that you should look for Howard Stern for relief.

We have.....

The lead character...The Episcopalian Priest....who every five minutes pops Vicadin...is oblivious to what is going on in his family...like his wife...and talks to Jesus, who is brought down to common man level.

The wife of the priest is a heavy martini drinker.

The daughter is selling drugs.

One of the sons is gay.

Other adopted son is Chinese, and is boinking the daughter of one of the church administrators 16 yr. old daughter.

The Administrator has absconded with 3 million $$ of the church funds that were to be used for a new school. He is missing. He is married to the Priest's wife's sister.

The Administrator is found naked and dead. The money is not found...a funeral is had with the Episcopalian Priest giving the service. At the service, a convertible drives by the people at the grave site. The new widow, (sister of the Priest's wife) recognizes the woman behind the wheel, as her husband (The Administrator's ) secretary...whips off her black veil and runs throughout the cemetery screaming " BITCH ! BITCH !! " .

The BITCH..happens to be his secretary...and turns out she was brought ingot a THREESOME by the Administrator who was having sex problems with his wife, and thought this would be a turn on....ok....(more on this later. )

The Chinese adopted son...still boinking the Administrator's 16 yr old kid.

The Gay son...is planning on joining THE CHURCH CHOIR...!!! WHY? because he is turned on by the Choir Director !!! ...and this choir director looks to be gay..but I didn't get it he is or not yet.

Alot of vicadin is being consumed throughout...and one of my favorite actress' Ellen Byrnstein players THE BISHOP. She is the head of the Episcopalian Priest. She seas that he is popping pills, wants some, asks for some, and he doesn't want to give them to her, much less admit he is hooked....but she convinces him SHE HAS DONE EVERYTHING IN THE 60'S...so he dumps some on THE BISHOP !! .....time for barf bag.

Then...The Priest has his parents over for a family meal, along with his sister in law who's husband absconded with the church funds of 3 mil. $$. The Mother has Alzheimer's , and this is make a joke of. (even tho the priest does say at one point " I miss my Mom "....she has to leave the table to "go pee" so the black maid offers to help her to the "Powder Room". Upon which , she says " Why do they call it a Powder Room ? It is a Pee Room"....(insert chuckle her on the behalf of the Alzheimer's patient)...sound good so far ?

Well...we are not through !....Interspersed here, we have Jesus, dressed in white just condoning sex , drugs, fornication....and the adopted son that is boinking the 16 yr. old.....Jesus says " Well, boys will be boys ". ( I am wanting to cry now )

The Father of the Priest is of course an elderly man, husband of the Alzheimer's Mother...and TA DA !..a what? A BISHOP !!! duh !......he goes for a ride in the car with his pill popping priest son...to go over and talk to the sister in law that was married to the administrator that died but was in a threesome with the bitch secretary......ok ? .....following along?.....when they get there, the priest gets out of the car (after popping another vicadin)...and sees his sister in law sitting inside CLOSE at the table with who ??????? THE BITCH !! Come to find out...the two women are carrying on their sex because it was so good..why quit ?????????????

And later on.....the old dude , the father of the Episcopalian priest, is what ???? FOUND IN BED WITH THE BISHOP (ellen byrnstein) !!!!!!!!! of course, this is understandable, because his wife has Alzheimer's. !!

(....and all this took place in the course of 2 hours. ) I think it is sick.

I am sure they won't remove it...I won't watch it again, but i weep for a country they has lost it's moral compass. I weep for the children. What have we handed them. Shame on this country. Blessings to those who are trying to make it better. God help us.
