JERUSALEM — Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the most powerful Israeli leader in 50 years, has died. He was 77.
Sharon was declared dead by physicians at Jerusalem's Hadassah Hospital before 1 p.m. Israeli time [6 a.m. EST], Middle East Newsline reported. Authorities have already been notified of the death, and a government announcement was expected to be issued over the next hour.
Are you kidding? Bubba will probably go into surgery for something or another to try to get the spotlight on himself.

A massive brain hemorrage and 9 hours of brain surgery? I think death would be a merciful thing at this point. Hanging on as a vegetable would not be very enobling for a man like he.

Not sure if this is accurate.
I'll not believe this until the Israeli government makes an announcement. Having said that, it is very clear that his time as Prime Minister is passed; it is also likely he will not live much longer. As such, as much as I disagreed with giving the Palestinians an inch of territory, prayers for him and his family.

On another thread there is speculation that Sharon is being kept alive (assuming the situation is indeed hopeless) through the Sabbath, as Jews are required to bury the dead within 24 hours. Prepping for a state funeral couldn't be done during the Sabbath, thus the need to keep him on life support. Sounds like a plausible explanation.
I just went to an Israeli newspaper and they have nothing about his dying. In fact, they are asking for prayers for him and Israel.
This looks like a hoax. No word on any of the 'nets, and it is 10:20 eastern time right now...this supposedly happened four hours ago?
FoxNews, Haaretz and Jerusalem Post all states that the third surgical intervention in two days finished after 4 hours. The PM is out of surgery and his condition is reassessed by the doctors. A new CAT scan will be performed.
John Scott on FoxNews just said Sharon is 'still hanging on'.
