JERUSALEM Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the most powerful Israeli leader in 50 years, has died. He was 77.
Sharon was declared dead by physicians at Jerusalem's Hadassah Hospital before 1 p.m. Israeli time [6 a.m. EST], Middle East Newsline reported. Authorities have already been notified of the death, and a government announcement was expected to be issued over the next hour.

If true.....RIP HEROAmen. I've long admired Ariel Sharon for his strength and courage. He did what he thought was best for Israel regardless of what the morally confused West thought. That took a lot of courage, he was the right man in the right place at the right time, IMHO.

Hospital: CT shows significant improvement, inter-cranial pressure normal (Ch. 10)

Hospital: Sharon`s condition serious but stable (Ch. 10)
The improvement mentioned is of course in respect to the scan taken prior to his operation today. As before - it all depends on avoiding any further vascular catastrophes (hemorrhages) and keeping the intra-cranial pressure normal.

But what choice did Mr. Sharon have? Israel was being terrorized on a daily basis by suicide bombers. No easy answers when dealing w/fanatics. The only other choice would be to kill the terrorists, and everyone who supports them. They'll have to that in the end anyway, as most of the Palies won't settle for anything less than pushing all the Jews into the sea.

Not an easy task. The Madrasas (sp?) have been preaching hate for years and the tribalistic society has been entrenched for centuries. We must remember they're still living in the 1st or 2nd century. Capitalism may work, but the religion of Islam doesn't seem to be conducive to it. Sadly,I don't know what the realistic answer is.

Even if Sharon somehow survives this, he will not be able to perform duties of PM or engage politically in any way.

so, was Lunatic Fringe speaking from beyond the grave?? Or just do the best version of DU??
Not sure, but in yesterday's 'Sharon had died' thread....
comments were made about the number of times the Pope died,
the number of times Arafat died,
the number of times Saddam Husseid was killed before we captured him, etc.
Whether he as passed, his condition is such that any recovery would put him in a near-vegetative state. It is very probable that he has passed and the delay is to allow the governments to prepare and adjust.

since there never was a Palistinian state, orther than Israel Riiight. Not quite sure what flavor your "Riiight" is. But when I was a teen and pre-teen, if you said "Palestine" you meant Israel. As I understand it, that was general usage from around 1900 on. There were no "Palestinian" Arabs, other than a few Bedouins. Most of the ancestors of today's "Palestinian" migrated, mostly from Trans-Jordan and Egypt, in response to economic opportunities created by the Zionist Jews.
