RIDGEFIELD Gabriel Galanski is disheartened that more students from Ridgefield High School aren't considering a career in the military.

Excellent article! These 2 young men get it and I hope they are accepted by their respective academys.
It's kids like this that will keep America strong.
On a side note. I just found out that my cousin, who is 37 is re-enlisting in the military. He has been trying to be a minister for a few years, but the Presbyterian church will not ordain him because he is outspoken against the ordainment of gays.
So, he decided, he would rather serve God and country as a military chaplain, going in with the rank of Captain in the
Air Force.
I am soooooo proud!!!
As you should be.
Very few people reaching 40 with out serving in the military are half the person they could have been.
Bring back the draft!
lol...spoke to a recruiter tonight...no way for this old soldier!
Technical point. He is not re-enlisting. He is being commissioned an officer. There is a difference.
Good for your cousin.
As for the Presbyterian church, if he ever treads down that road again, tell him to try another branch of Presbyterianism. He tried with PCUSA, right?
And it just goes to show how truly rotten their leadership is. *sigh*
It doesn't take strength, an abundance of testosterone, or a lack of intelligence to suceed in the military. All it takes is self-discipline and the will to suceed, which just about anyone can produce if they give it enough tries. It's a shame that most people will never find that out.
I was one of those people once. "The military? Me? No way! I like to read and hate getting up early!" I didn't care much for getting yelled at, either. But it was the only way to pay for college, so in '93, I gritted my teeth and prepared to endure two years of pain (two year enlistments were in style back in the Drawdown Years of the early 90s).
Now here I am, nearly thirteen years later. I live in a house in Japan with my Japanese wife, and my handsome son is howling about something over in his play area. My Bachelor's is hanging on my wall, next to my Mount Fuji stick. I got cash in the bank and I'm thinking of buying a house when I get back to the States. None of this would have been possible without the Navy.
The ironic thing is that I have a friend in my hometown, living in a trailer and working a stream of menial, degrading jobs. He's thinking of going to college "sometime next year, when I get some money and motivation." When I first signed up, he was, "What are you, stupid? No way I'm going for that crap!" Now, he confesses he regrets not trying.
I joined the military as a temporary thing until I decide to grow up...still deciding...
Heh, I hear ya. I have that "Starship Trooper" moment every so often, when I get new people. They are so young and naive! Was I ever like that? Yes, I guess I was. But I still like to look over at my fellow "old guys" and say, "Who let the grade-schoolers in here?"
And I'm hardly old--I turn 31 this year. I joined when I was 18.
"They are so young and naive!"
That is the truth...
My first crusty ol' NCOs were all Vietnam vets, they took no B.S....
Don't know about that pay thing being bad, I take home almost $5,000.00 a month...not bad for a 9th grade education....
What do you do? The Marines I talk to say they're on food stamps
"What do you do?"
Nothing, I'm in the USAF....
bttt
