update Microsoft plans to release a fix for a serious security vulnerability in Windows on Thursday, several days before the patch's scheduled delivery.
The company is breaking with its monthly patch cycle because it completed testing of the security update earlier than it anticipated, it said in a note on its Web site. "In addition, Microsoft is releasing the update early in response to strong customer sentiment that the release should be made available as soon as possible," the company said.
The security update, originally scheduled for Tuesday, fixes a vulnerability in the way Windows renders Windows Meta File images. The bug was discovered last week and is increasingly being used in what Microsoft calls "malicious and criminal attacks on computer users."

LOL!
Much of the software I run will not run on a MAC. As long as you use a good firewall (such as Zone Alarm), a good spyware detector (such as Ad Aware) and a good virus/trojan detector (Such as Panda Platinum), and keep your windows updated, you will be ok.
I have tried running a version of Linux from CD. Eh.
It won't save my settings, bookmarks, etc. Therefore I have to put all that stuff in each time I start it up. A real PIA.
I guess if I stuck with it I could learn to accept it but my temper can be pretty short sometimes.
Interesting... my company pushed out a Windows security update yesterday afternoon. I wonder if we got an advance copy.
Instead of going Mac why don't you just write a secure OS? You speak as if you are more qualified than MS.
Write your own secure OS. That's the answer, genius.
Patches
Clarence Carter
I was born and raised down in Alabama
On a farm way back up in the woods
I was so ragged folks used to call me Patches
Papa used to tease me but he was hurt cus he done all he could
My papa was a great old man
I can see him with a shovel in his hand
See, education he never had
But he did wonders when the times got bad
The little money from the crops he raised
Barely paid the bills we made
Oh life had kicked him down to the ground
When he tried to get up life would kick him back down
One day papa called me to his dyin bed
Put his hands on my shoulders And in tears he said
Patches, I'm depending on you son
To pull the family through
My son, it's all left up to you
Two days later papa passed away
I became a man that day
So I told mama I was gonna quit school
But she said that was daddy's strictest rule
So every morning 'fore I went to school
I fed the chickens and I chopped wood too
Sometimes I felt that I couldn't go on
I wanted to leave and run away from home
But I always remembered what my daddy said
With tears in his eyes on his dyin bed
He said, "Patches, I'm depending on you son
I tried to do my best,
It's up to you to do the rest
But then one day a strong rain came
And washed all the crops away
And at the age of thirteen I thought I was carrying
The weight of the whole world on my shoulders
And you know, mama knew what I was going through, Cause
Everyday I had to work the fields
Cause that's the only way we got our meals
You see, I was the boss of the family
And everybody else depended on me
Every night I heard my mama pray
Lord, give him the strength to face another day
The years have passed and all the kids are gone
The angels took mama to a brand new home
God knows people that I shed a tear
But my daddy's voice just speaks to me
Sayin, "Patches, I'm depending on you son
To pull the family through
My son, it's all left up to you
I could still hear papa when he'd say
Patches, I'm depending on you son
I tried to do my best
It's up to you to do the rest".
FADE
Write your own secure OS, genius.
And I sincerely hope you ran the latest versions of Spybod S&D, Spyware Blaster and Ad-Aware SE.
Gonna be a busy evening.
Think that's a coincidence?
SPYBOD!
Sometimes typos can be really funny.
Just write your own secure OS since you seem to know so much about it.
Would you like some cheese with that whine?
Nobody ever hacked my Timex Sinclair.......
I came into the digital world in the electrical engineering field when it wasn't really practical to do any data acquisition with a MAC. PCs were preferred because of their expansion slots and the availability of specialized cards. Perhaps all of that has changed by now. And, you may be right. MAC may be the way to go.
No need to. Apple and Linux already have them.
sorry I didn't have a smart ass response sooner. had to switch computers since Windows crashed.
I am qualified to READ THE REPORTS. And they ALL say that Windows SUCKS.
