NSA Whistleblower Asks to Testify
By Bill Gertz
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Published January 5, 2006
"I intend to report to Congress probable unlawful and unconstitutional acts conducted while I was an intelligence officer with the National Security Agency and with the Defense Intelligence Agency," Mr. Tice stated in the Dec. 16 letters, copies of which were obtained by The Washington Times.
The lid is about to blow.

"Russ Tice, a whistleblower who was dismissed from the NSA last year."
Disgruntled former employee.
You're only protected if you're not a crank. This guys clearly one of the many socially inept egotistical jerks that can be found at NSA and other nooks and crannies of the intelligence field. It just seems that in his case, he's way over the line with his eccentricities.
If I got fired from my job at one McDonalds for not coming to work on time, and then showed up as a 'whistleblower' against health code violations of a different McDonalds, why would anyone take me seriously?
They wouldn't.
So who cares? This is a guy with an axe to grind, and who wasn't part of the program in question.
As Rush pointed out. This guy is a leaker.
Whistleblowers are supposed to report suspected wrong doing to an internal agency so the problem can be investigated internally without compromising security for instance.
This fired employee went public - that's a leaker/traitor.
No, a nutcase with a history of false "whistleblowing". See post #13.
Gee, wonder where Mr. Tice got his knowledge of this program?
You have to wonder how many Americans will die because of Tice's leak.
This is the guy whose name is plastered all over the news today as being willing to testify in the "NSA wiretapping" matter before Congress.
Point is, he has a prior "whistleblowing" history, making a false claim of "spying" against a former colleague.
More than that. In 2002, he made a false claim against a colleague as "spying for China" while at DIA. That claim was proved false.
Two names that popped out at me were Larry Johnson and Daniel Ellsberg.Looks like another Hate-Bush outfit.
True, but he can't deliver the goods. In order to testify you need testimony. He has none.
Besides, if a wild eyed kook like him becomes the face people associate with the liberals and their opposition to protecting the country, I don't have a problem with it.
Read this carefully. Tice is NOT the leaker of the current information related to NSA spying on Americans. He is not THAT LEAKER! He is just some fool fired from the NSA who NOW wants to talk about the NSA program, with the added benefit of making people (like you) assume that because he wants to talk about it, that HE is the leaker. HE AINT THE LEAKER!
The leakers of this information to the NY Times are in CONGRESS. They leaked the information under the assumption that they are immune from prosecution, for which they might be correct. However, the NY Times is NOT immune, and since Bush has called their bluff with his investigation, both Congress and the Times need someone to assume the role of lightning rod for the media's continued focus on the story.
The only thing this Tice person knows about the particular NSA program in question, is what he is being told by those who DID leak the same information to the media.
Why, you ask?
Well, YOU try getting a job after the NSA has reported you to be paranoid, and fired you. He is just another victim of the Bush administration's housecleaning at both the NSA and CIA. There are many looking for an opportunity to enact revenge on this White House. Tice is nothing but a stooge, doing what he is told to do, while someone unnamed makes sure he can still put food on his table.
Since the NSA barely acknowledges its existance, I doubt they give any job references - good or bad.
Looks like his real problem with the NSA is that they wouldn't spy on someone he thought was a Chinese agent.
That is my guess as well. Hopefully they will be caught and nailed for it.
I'm not sure at all that the leaker is from Congress. I'm thinking there's someone in the intelligence apparatus who doesn't agree with the President's claims of unlimited powers.
I'm also not sure I don't agree with someone who's uncomfortable with the idea that the "War on Terror" constitutes a "declaration of war" that's required for "wartime powers". We know that the War on Terror isn't going to be won in a few years, or maybe even a few decades. Are you willing to suspend the constitution for that long?
I support the War on Terror. I'm also comfortable with a system that requires warrants for searches, especially when those warrants easy to get, are practically always approved, and can be obtained up to 15 days after the fact. I know it puts me in the minority here, but I'm a little protective when it comes to my civil liberties, and I think it's OK for the NSA to have to ask for a warrant from FISA before listening in. I'll have to see more evidence that getting a warrant would hamper the President's ability to protect the nation. Thing about freedom is, once it's gone it's hard to get back.
You need more information. Apparently they have gotten thousands of warrants from the FISA court and have encountered some situations that were not anticipated by the law.
This is a CYA attempt. They know they are being outted as inside sources by the Justice Department. They are tying to get the Rinos in Congress to give them official whistle blower status in hearings to protect them from prosecution for exposing US secrets to the NY slmes.
Only two posts?

Maybe he's suffering from "writer's block".
