Pat Robertson: Sharon Punished for Dividing Israel
JTA ^ | 1/5/06

Posted on 01/05/2006 10:59:44 AM PST by areafiftyone

The Rev. Pat Robertson said Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is being punished by God for dividing the Land of Israel. Robertson, speaking on the “700 Club” on Thursday, suggested Sharon, who is currently in an induced coma, and former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, assassinated by an Israeli extremist in 1995, were being treated with enmity by God for dividing Israel. “He was dividing God’s land,” Robertson said. “And I would say, Woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the E.U., the United Nations or the United States of America. God says, This land belongs to me. You better leave it alone.”

But of course Pat Robertson is not the first to claim something not Written.

Kind of funny considering that the article doesn't support its headline with a quotation of what it claims he said...and yet people are condemning him for it based on the headline.

I am not supporting Pat Robertson. I am supporting literacy.

Pat is a vicious bastard for saying this.

For saying what?

"If God did something contrary to what was in the Bible, that would make him a liar."

No, it would prove that imperfect men got the message wrong.

God can do what He wants. He's not confined to the actions written in a book by men.

I won't argue your point.

No, it would prove that imperfect men got the message wrong.

No, it would show that God isn't all powerful and somehow, while He can create Heaven and Earth, He doesn't have the measly little ability to speak through people and have them transcribe His Word correctly.

I don't buy that theory.

Robertson spokeswoman Angell Watts said of critics who challenged his remarks, "What they're basically saying is, `How dare Pat Robertson quote the Bible?'"

"This is what the word of God says," Watts said. "This is nothing new to the Christian community."

I'm ashamed that I used to watch CBN, and at one time thought Robertson to be sane.

Pat Robertson is an idiot.

If you knew the scriptures well enough THAT title would fit yourself perfect!
You may take a look at Genesis 12:1-7, and 13:14-17, 15:18-21!!
When you are there, also look at 17:2, plus 17:8 and 28:15!!
Take a look at Deuteronomy 6:4-5 as well, and 7:1-2!!!
Would you say that God lied to the Israelites??? May God bless your ignorance and forgive you!!!!

I can't help but notice what you did not include.

Jeremiah 3:8 And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

There was at this time two separates houses and they are still separate at this time according to what is Written and will be separate until Christ Himself rejoins them as that is also Written.

Your Genesis account was a promise to Abraham and it also said that his seed would number the stars of heaven and the sands of the sea. Do you know that number?

What an un-Christian thing to say. God's punishment is not in this world.

Yes, that's the point I was trying to make to Sir Gawain, who had written: "Does the Bible support his argument? I haven't seen a refutation of what he's saying. Just a bunch of whining from "offended" freepers." He seemed to be saying that we should check to see if the Bible supports Mr. Robertson's "argument" before criticizing it.

I was trying to put him on the receiving end of that reasoning, by drawing the ludicrous picture of someone discussing the life-threatening illness of a fellow church member's elderly relative, by saying that it was just retribution from God for something the old person did. Would anyone hesitate to criticize someone at their church who told another church member "Your mother had this massive stroke because God is punishing her for ____?" Or should they first do as Sir Gawain suggested, and run check their Bibles to see if they can find back-up for the mean-spirited comment, and all join in with similar comments if they think they've found it?

Same sort of sick reasoning the Fred-Phelpsians use, to justify their vicious demonstrations at the funerals of AIDS victims. As far as they're concerned, if they can point to a passage in the Bible that says homosexuality is a sin, then they are absolutely justified in inflicting horrific pain on grieving family members at a funeral.

Poor Pat just cannot shake off the political demons he inherited from his father.

"The proverbial "fit" is going to hit the "sham" on this one."

This happens every time Pat opens his mouth and spews his "fit". Pat is so full of 'fit' that the brown stains leak out of his mouth just like it was a big chew, and no spitoon handy. So he spits it all over the media. Pat is a has been and an idiot most of the time these days. Reminds me a bit of Jimmy Peanut Carter. They both have hoof 'n mouth disease.

so many questions! why didn't God smote Ariel before he withdrew from Gaza? if Israel is "God's land" what does that make the US? and how do we know God isn't smiting Ariel for building a wall and dividing His land?

i'm a little confused about Pat's and other fundies' thelogy....are the jews just supposed to do God's work in "His land" and then go to Hell for not believing in Christ? Surely whether Sharon withdrew from Gaza or not or built a wall or not, Robertson must believe he can't be going to Heaven because he rejects Christ. And how does Pat feel about "God's land" having as its state religion one that officially rejects Jesus Christ?

It makes me nuts when Robertson is described as an "Evangelical leader." It's like calling Farrakhan an "African American leader."

90% think he's completely nuts.
