The Rev. Pat Robertson said Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is being punished by God for dividing the Land of Israel. Robertson, speaking on the 700 Club on Thursday, suggested Sharon, who is currently in an induced coma, and former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, assassinated by an Israeli extremist in 1995, were being treated with enmity by God for dividing Israel. He was dividing Gods land, Robertson said. And I would say, Woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the E.U., the United Nations or the United States of America. God says, This land belongs to me. You better leave it alone.
At least most panhandlers are honest about their situation.
I believe that G-d promised Abraham the land from the "wadi of Egypt to the great river" (Euphrates?). Israel has never been that large. Although they did make it to Egypt and could very well had gone to Iraq and the Euphrates river if Western diplomacy hadn't had stopped them.
Open mouth, insert foot.
Does anyone have a transcipt? Seems a lot of people are placing a lot of faith in what someone is saying Pat meant as opposed to what Pat actually said. Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt about his ability to say dumb stuff but if we are going to be sceptical of the media lets do so in all cases, not just when it fits our notions.
Again, full transcript anyone?
Therefore, I'd prefer to see the program myself before I comment. I suspect that something is being taken out of context here, so I'll reserve comment.
Pat has made no secret of his support for the settlers and his disagreement with Sharon's policies. I want to see a transcript of this show before I comment.
It surprises me how FReepers are so quick to accept the spin of everything they see on the Internet. Right now it appears to be "the trend" to jump all over Pat Robertson and twist his comments out of context.
Some of Pat's past comments have been twisted out of context -- this is partly Pat's fault, he should exercise discretion in what he says. But this continual twisting of his comments makes it clear that many people want to see Pat Robertson destroyed.
It's nuts like him that give good Christians a bad name.
Maybe the strawman you're talking to is a Christian. Let's ask him!
*ring*
Pat Robertson: Hello?
God: Pat? This is God.
Pat: Who? Oh, yeah... God. (looks around for something shiny)
God: How's it going?
Pat(finding a slinky): Not bad, Lord, not bad. We raised lots of money last month. I'll take my usual 40%, pay the network expenses, and send the rest to you. (winking)
God: Don't you think it would be a good idea to use that money to.. I don't know.. feed hungry people? Buy clothes for for children?
Pat: Well, Lord, I really think we're doing your Will. And it's expensive to serve you. I mean, look at this suit! It cost me $3500 just for this one suit, and I'm on TV every day!
God: Hmmm.
Pat: You know... It's not easy being your servant, Lord.
God: How's that?
Pat: I said it's not easy being your servant. It's a lot of work to be smarmy and judgemental!
God: Indeed...
Pat: And getting the word out on your various judgements! Many people just don't believe as easily as they used to. I took a lot of heat for spreading the news after 9/11, you know...
God: Yeah, Pat... That's kind of what I'm calling about.
Pat: What's up, Boss?
God: You need to stop speaking for me before I shove a bolt of lightning up your ass.
Pat: Huh?
God: You heard me! Knock it off... I'm tired of making excuses for you.
Pat: Excuses to whom?
God: Oh, you know... just.. people.
Pat: Is someone reporting to you behind my back?
God: Yes, but I'm taking that secret to your grave. Hehe, little joke. Moses thinks it's time to give you leprosy. He's got a great sense of humor like that.
The same sentiments with no offense would have gone something like this:
For being a great hero of Israel for many decades, but for making some serious mistakes lately, God may have given Sharon a warning last month. A warning resulting in miraculously no damage whatsoever, and even possibility life saving in that it pointed to a congenital defect to be corrected.
Sharon should have exited the stage then to care for his health. He didn't.
What occurred now resulted from what Sharon did to himself.
Pat has a long, long, LONG track record of making nasty and idiotic statements like this. That's why it is so easy for us to believe he said it.
Recently Pat Robertson has gone overboard too many times. He's turning into a nutcase!
True, but he has tremendous media reach in the U.S., and a small but noisy crowd of followers, and is a former Presidential candidate who got a lot more media attention for that than he warranted. All this leads to perception around the world that his views are representative of a large chunk of the U.S. population. His latest babblings will be used by the Islamoterrorist media to promote support for their cause, and will be effective for that purpose. It will be successfully claimed that he says out loud what U.S. leaders really think.
Oh my come on Pat? You don't have a real clue. By that statement you're showing how locked into 'doctrines and traditions of men' you continue to be.
Billy Graham is the only one I listen too.
I see the others as begging for money to build an even more ornate church, or pad their bank accounts. I might be wrong, but that's what I think. I stopped believing in organized religion with Jimmy Swaggart.(sp?)
It's not the President's problem that the rest of the world is too stupid to recognize that.
