TIJUANA, Mexico Investigators have arrested three gunmen accused of participating in killings and kidnappings ordered by a Tijuana-based drug smuggling cartel and who allegedly used acid to dissolve the bodies of some victims, state authorities said.
Prosecutors in Baja California state, where Tijuana is located, said in a statement that Oswaldo Millan, 26, Armando Nava, 32, and Arturo Silva, a 29-year-old former state investigator, were arrested during a raid Tuesday in Otay.
The office said the suspects admitted belonging to the Arellano Felix cartel and working as enforcers who collect fees from drug traffickers using the cartel's routes. The enforcers allegedly killed those who interfered with their illicit business and dissolved some of their victims' bodies in acid.
Police accused the men of killing two people and kidnapping four others. During the raid police also recovered four guns and six automatic rifles, and several cell phones.
The three have been transferred to a maximum-security prison outside of Mexico City where they will await trial on drug-trafficking charges.
