National Security Whistleblowers Coalition: Congress, Whistleblower Protection & Accountability |
|
WASHINGTON -- April 27 -- What: An unprecedented group of national security whistleblowers have formed a united front as the National Security Whistleblowers Coalition (NSWBC). They will collectively attend two bipartisan congressional meetings today to demand that Congress act to end government retaliation against those who expose national security blunders, that Congress hold hearings into the federal governmenta's actions against whistleblowers, and that Congress act to require individual accountability for retaliation against whistleblowers. The congressional meetings will be followed by a press conference featuring speakers from the NSWBC and guest speakers.
Speakers: Sibel Edmonds, Former Language Specialist, FBI Coleen Rowley, Retired Agent and former division counsel, FBI John Vincent, Veteran Special Agent, FBI Mike German, Veteran Special Agent, FBI Russ Tice, Senior Intelligence Analyst & Action Officer, NSA Jesselyn Radack, Former Counsel, DOJ
Guest Speakers: Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-MA) Mark Zaid, attorney, Krieger Zaid LLC Professor William Weaver, University of Texas Danielle Brian, Director, Project on Government Oversight (POGO) Tom Devine, Legal Director, Government Accountability Project (GAP) Dan Ellsberg, Founder, Truth Telling Project
Date: Thursday, April 28 Time: 1:30 PM- 3:00PM Location: 122 Cannon House Office Building, SE, Washington, DC
Background: Since the September 11th terrorist attacks, whistleblowers have felt compelled to come forward in greater numbers to address our nation's security weaknesses in fact almost 50% more have sought protection annually under the Whistleblower Protection Act since that terrible event. However, patriotic truth-tellers across a variety of federal agencies have no protection against retaliation when they blow the whistle. Today, the federal government's policies support and reinforce wrongdoers who would seek to silence whistleblowers by demoting them, taking away their security clearances, or firing them. In recent days that point was illustrated in the case of FBI Special Agent Robert Wright, who has been critical of the efforts to pursue terrorists. Without whistleblower protections, agencies will continue to quash truth tellers and national security weaknesses will be allowed to fester underneath the growing cloak of secrecy.

Amen, brother. Drudge has always been one of the chicken littles who runs wild in the streets when a municipality puts up video cameras.

AND, he's been interviewed by Amy Goodman of Democracy Now - HERE in Real Player
She does her spin, shows Leaky's catatonic speech, and then he's on a bit after the 6.0 mark.
Or, you can read the Transcript of her interview

He cannot do that, can he? I mean, even if he was fired, he still cannot testify to classified stuff, can he?
I'll say it again: we're heading towards a "Frank Church" purge of the intelligence agencies.
And after all this leaking, I'm not sure it doesn't need to be done; this is most certainly a concerted effort by SOMEBODY to destroy Bush and the government.
Boy oh boy...do we ever need a "Frank Church" purge! It also looks as though we need another HUAC; this time for "leakers".
This looks like an all out war by the intelligence community, in conjunction with the press and the DNC, against George W. Bush.
Two words: Jay Rockefeller.
Any questions?
FR exists, as does FNC, and talk radio.
"Two words: Jay Rockefeller.
Any questions?"
I'm sure he has very high clearence. I didn't say anything about character, just clearence.
Well, that was my point; in fact, I'm not even comfortable with OUR guys, whoever they might be, knowing some of this stuff. :-)
Doesn't matter if it is Rockie. He is NOT allowed to leak it to the press. If he objected he could of brought the issue up before of a closed session of the US Senate. He could of offered legislation to CHANGE the law. He is NOT allowed to leak it to the Press.

He just wants to be loved!
It is PASS time for the 1960s Generation to grow up. Citizens are NOT entitled to do what ever they want when ever they want because it FEELS right to them to do it. WE, as a society, have rights too. This rabidly hysteric notion that individual emotional whimsy is superior to societies rights has GOT to be flushed once and for all. This guy is going down for a felony and is trying out the Murtha defense. Trying to portray himself as a "whistle blower" being victimized by "the man" Bull SHI^! Utter, completely with out merit BULL SHI^. He is NOT. He is a felon. He KNOWINGLY violated dozens of laws because he FELT he could. He is NOT allowed to leak to the press because he FEELS like it. That is a crime. A knowing disclose of classified information for no better reason then the leaker EMOTIONALLY DISAGREED with the law. Too bad, one does NOT get to put one's own emotional whimsy in front of their LEGAL obligations. I would LIKE to punch Jay Rockefeller in the mouth for the GOOD OF THE COUNTRY but I AM NOT legally allowed to do that.
NY Times lexicon: If you don't like him, he's a leaker. If he's your favorite martyr, he's a whistleblower.
