Right. But because he has lots of other employers, he may get away with it again.

Which is why even though I love Thomas Sowell, I think he is just inviting more corruption, not less.

If the government had less power, there would be less corruption.

Last night, I went to bed at 11pm, telling my wife that I had not had 6 solid hours of sleep in a week.

Each night, I was awoke by different things...dogs needed to go out...wife having a bad dream and needed to share it with me...cell phone ringing (hers)(which as the man, she being scared someone was in a car wreck, only to find it was a wrong number(just got the cells a month ago))...the alarm went off because instead of setting the alarm 4 hours later, she set the TIME four hours later.

Well, I explained that I did not want to be woke up for any reason that did not involve saving my life.

At 3am, she woke me from my dream of being fed skinless grapes by Anne Coulter to tell me that one survived.

In a half-sleep state I said, "You could have waited until morning to tell me." She replied that there was no need to be angry.

This was yesterday. They claimed they got a child molester in Virginia. I know I saw it yesterday because the wife and I disagreed about it.

I don't doubt it was reported yesterday. And the report may be referring to yet another PATRIOT Act success.

OTOH, it may a resurrection of an old report as a matter of selling the PATRIOT Act to disbelievers.

The Patriot Act has also allowed us to go after violent criminals who would harm the innocent.

In Kentucky, law enforcement used section 210 of the Patriot Act to investigate an individual linked to several sexual assaults of children at public libraries and local parks. Just before the individual in question became the primary suspect in the case, he attempted to rape and abduct a six-year-old girl at a playground in Boone County, Kentucky.

Investigators used section 210 to obtain key information from an Internet service provider. Within 20 minutes of receipt of the subpoena, the investigators obtained the information that allowed them to get a search warrant of the suspect's residence. Without that information, it is unlikely that investigators could have obtained a search warrant for the house.

Evidence located in the house proved essential in the arrest of the suspect and his wife within 24 hours. The couple was charged and prosecuted for 100-counts of receipt and possession of child pornography.

The prosecution also led to information tying the couple to multiple sexual assaults in Kentucky and Virginia. The defendants were convicted and sentenced to prison terms of approximately 30 years and 90 years.

In another example, Section 212 was instrumental in quickly rescuing a 13-year-old girl from Western Pennsylvania who had been lured from her home and was being held captive in Virginia by a 38-year-old man she had met online.

USA Patriot Act - Ashcroft Testimonny - ISLP 7-19-04

I argued that we should just set up web cams on everyone so they can monitor all of us and they will catch a whole lot more.

Tracking bracelets or implants might be more cost effective. As long as the purpose is prevention of vile acts.

I prefer it to be used exclusively for counter-terrorism. I do not want another perversion like the RICO act. (Even knowing a heinous crime was prevented.)

If law enforcement needs the equivalent power for those circumstances, give it to them, but don't do it under the Patriot Act.

Never seem able to actually focus on the REAL guilty parties.

By just looking at the list, they're darned nearly ALL guilty. The sheer volume of those involved is staggering.

Re: The miners. Here's an interesting little factoid. ICG's Wilbur Ross was appointed by Bubba to some post. From this link:

He was appointed by former President Bill Clinton to the Board of the U.S.-Russia Investment Fund and served as privatization adviser to New York City’s former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.

Re: The miners.From this link:

Ross doesn't hesitate to extract any advantage he can in Washington. A longtime giver to Democratic candidates, he was a major fund-raiser for Bill Clinton, but his pragmatic side has him courting the opposition at the moment. These days, he's down in Washington every week to argue his view on trade and the need to protect American jobs. With their eye on next year's election, lawmakers and the political staff at the White House have welcomed meetings with Ross. He has put together something called the Free Trade for America Coalition. With 70-odd members, the protectionist group ranges from labor unions to corporations to agricultural interests and is a formidable lobbying machine. He likes to portray himself as helping to publicize a groundswell of popular discontent at the demise of American manufacturing. But make no mistake: He expects WL Ross to profit. "We are not," he assures, "an eleemosynary institution."
