This is remarkable film footage. This is a night vision movie from Iraq, showing live action against Iraqi insurgents. The pictures were taken from an AC-130 Specter gunship two and a half miles from the target. The guys in the picture are setting up a roadside bomb and planning to ambush an American convoy which followed a short while after the pictures were taken. They were setting up the ambush and were pacing off the distance from the bomb to where the convoy was to pass by.
Turn your sound up. The level of effort these Specter crews put forth to control the enemy's antics is commendable, and their marksmanship with those electronically controlled 40mm cannons is astounding.

This is not an AC130 Spec, it's an apache attack heli, and a very very old video.

I didn't realize that AC-130 Specter's can hover. African or European?

"No such animal. The proposed Bravo upgrade was cancelled in 92."
Whatever the Longbow is officially called, then. (The point being, after my time.)

I *think* the Longbow-equipped Apache is the AH-64D.

Looked more like a grenade launcher being delivered to a field hand. Obviously, these 'insurgents' didn't exactly have a plan - Looks like they were a little confused, now they don't need to concern themselves further.

Not if your circle is outside the target. The focus and zoom can be computer controlled to appear to hover.........

It is. It is not.

true, but that leaves the guns away from the target. (The AC-130 has the guns on the portside) Need to keep your guns on the target... If they were circling outside of the target, the guns aren't pointing towards the target for half the time.

It could have been the 'Osprey variant' of the AC-130, that tilts its wings up and hovers in ground effect, sitting there roaring away and raising enormous clouds of dust as it stealthily stalks the terrorists.
"Achmed, what the hell *IS* that thing?"
:-P

He also asked me not to put these on the internet for security reasons. Too late - they've been on the web for at least a year now. I've got the video on my machine at home, and it's been there for probably 10 months.
