So, I posted a topic-related comment to the daily Mark Levin thread less than 2 weeks ago. AliVeritas pinged back & asked if I was going to do a Best Of 2005 thread. The thought hadn't entered my mind...& so, here it is. I posted ~13,000 items in Today's Toons last year...that was the "bad" news. The "good" news was that some of the links were dead. The bad news was that not enough of them were dead ;-) The good news was that after I finished selections for a month, I'd send it to AliVeritas (thank you!!!) who whittled it down to an acceptable number. The bad news is that after doing that for 4 1/2 months of toons, AliVeritas went on a retreat. The good news was that I'd planned to post 100 selections for this thread. The bad news is that I hit a wall when doing November/December & ended up with 160. If you'd like to help for 2006, FReepmail me & I'll tell you what would be involved.
There are some "rules" here, but not many. When selecting your favorites, use your own criteria. Some like funny, clever, pithy, touching, etc. Some like cartoons, photoshops, animations, etc. So, judge each entry unto itself. As the one who adds click-on audios, videos, pics, toons to existing entries, I judge these to be part of that entry as a whole...you, of course, can ignore that if you wish...but only at your own peril...
Each entry is numbered (1-160). Entries 1, 3 & 5 involve some animation. I put them near the top because if your PC is like mine & you click on an audio attachment, the animation ceases to animate (unless you refresh/reload the page). So, you'll see the animations up front.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to send me the numbers in any order of your 25 (or less) favorites. If you are caught sending > 25, I won't disavow your existence, but will ask you to remove any excess. This offer will self-destruct at 5 PM ET, Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006. Good luck!
If certain pics/toons don't download (even after a refresh/reload), send me their numbers (which will show up) & I'll try to help. My plan is to post the 25 finalists in a new thread on 1/9/06 (I suggest that dial-up users wait for this round) & to ask you to select your 10 favorites in order of preference. The results of this final vote will be posted on 1/16/06. The decision of the judge (Today's Toons editor-in-chief) is final! Questions? Bring it on! And now, on with the show!!

Yes, but it's not the leading vote-getter at this point...
Okey-dokey, heeeeere's my list (now that most of them finally showed up instead of red "x"s):
#2, 4, 18, 26, 38, 48*, 50, 54*, 60*, 61*, 72*, 74, 84*, 94, 95*, 96*, 98, 108*, 116, 120, 125, 131, 142*, 146, and 158, with asterisks marking my ten favorites. Although they did not get my vote, I believe "honorable mentions" are in order for #16, 32, 36, 42, 44, and 88 (but I know you don't have to give that any weight under the rules).
In case you were wondering, because while I adore DayByDay and often comment on his 'toons, the ones you listed were not the ones that were my all-time favorites of his (sigh).
I had 30 but whittled it down to 25 as per the rules.

Great...that was the plan!!
I had to make a score sheet. I thought you'd want them in order of rank. I see that you don't.
Nah, the 25 top vote-getters (& any ties) will get into the finals...at that point, I'll want the top 10 in order...because #1 will get 10 pts., #2 - 9 pts.,..., #10 - 1 pt.
#136-The rousing Message from Patton's Ghost
Yes, but only for those who clicked on it :-(
Thanks for your dedication pookie18. Here are my choices; 25, 30, 33, 74, 76, 94, 96, 106, 125, 128, 130, 144, 149 and 158. A special mention for Day by Day and Mallard Fillmore for an entire year of pithy cartoons.
If you give me the #s of those with red "x"s...I'll make sure you can see them & then you can change your vote, if you'd like...
In case you were wondering, because while I adore DayByDay and often comment on his 'toons, the ones you listed were not the ones that were my all-time favorites of his (sigh).
Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to...tally da votes!! Re Day By Day...even getting down to 160 was a b*tch & I also notice that people's tastes are all over the place...
including all the feedback you may have received through freep, ail, etc., which ones are in the lead so far?

I have found one sure fire way to always win! ! ! !
Use those magic two words.
"Yes Dear"
Works everytime! ! ! !
Thanks for a great year! I didn't see a couple of my faves from earlier this year.
1)on or about April 20, 2005, by Morin, Miami Herald where two cardinals are discussing the black smoke rising in the distance and one asks the other what it is. The reply is "The media commentators ran out of dumb things to say and their heads all simultaneously exploded."
2) on or about 7 November 2005, by Mike Lester, Rome News Tribune where a wife is looking out the window asking her husband why he just killed their baby by throwing it out the window and he responds "I felt in constituted an undue burden."
Otherwise here's my picks from what you have pre-selected in order of appearance
13, 15, 25, 45, 50, 68, 90, 118, 133, 148, 158
