Good line-up. Laird will not accept any BS from Macnamara.

I guess I am just so used to things getting twisted around into a bash Bush opportunity..that I am very leery of this.

Sounds like a "come to Jesus" meeting on Iran, Syria and North Korea Agree 100%. Did Kennedy do the same during the Cuban Missile Crisis?

As I recall in the runup to OIF Eagleberger was against it.
As always I could be wrong.

William Rogers died in 2001. Elliot Richardson died in 1999. Dean Rusk died in 1994. Cyrus Vance died in 2002. Les Aspin died in 1995.

Robert McNamara is tragically still alive..

(So is Harold Brown)

Well, FGS, that's really clearing the room, isn't it?

This gets better and better for us!

But think of the PR opportunity this presents. Sure it could end up as a disaster, but anything Bush does could...including doing nothing. I LOVE to see some Iraq Vets in the room.

Pretty impressive list!

Since the White House is finally fighting back......I kind of like this idea.

Let them put up or shut up!

You missed Reagan's last SecDef BTW: Frank Carlucci. So far as I know he's still alive and no doubt will be there if invited. Him and Rumsfeld will almost certainly be in perfect agreement though I'd imagine.

Eagleburger was against the war. Since then has warned against any further action against Iran and Syria, saying in 2003 that Bush should be impeached if he took military action against Syria. Link

The name I was trying to think of was Brent Scowcroft who has been so hostile that I think it's fair to call him an enemy of the current administration.

12 Miners Found Alive, One Dead
http://www.team4news.com/Global/story.asp?S=4314920&nav=0w0v

12 miners trapped in a mountain in West Virginia have been found alive. The body of one miner was recovered earlier tonight.

Thumbs up, high fives, even screams of joy. Family members say the 12 miners trapped in a West Virginia mine since early Monday are alive.

Mining officials and West Virginia's governor had cautioned against high hopes. Now bells have been ringing at the church where relatives and co-workers had gathered to console themselves.

"This is Rove's way to hit back at those that say Bush is in a bubble and isn't getting outside advice."
The picture this conjures just leaves me laughing.

To me, this looks like THE event of the season! Leave it to W to start the year with a bang. Lord, if I didn't do anything else this year, I would love to be a fly on the wall or, preferably, a steward pouring coffee.

Yes, he was the National Security Adviser, supposedly very, very close friends with the first President Bush. Well...maybe not close friends any longer.

This is definitely a chance for the President to force his critics to tell him to his face what they're already saying in public. It will also give the President the opportunity to identify the character of his enemies based on how two faced they are.

It isn't a bad move by the President.

I'd love to be at this meet.

Perhaps it's about Iraq in surface.

Perhaps it's about something else.

Iran?

Syria?

Leaks? No doubt in my mind employees from Johnson, Carter, Clinton, and maybe even some Reagan and 41 appointees have been waging their war in State, Defense, and the CIA against the administration. Could be useful to feel out which of these people may be pulling strings in that warfare. I'll include ex 41 admin appointees as well (ex. Colin Powell).

Since this isn't an everyday event no question it's intended as more than a photo op.

"After JFK, a genuine hawk who recognized the battle, our enemies sure like it when Dems are in charge of national security."

Agreed, the Dems are a national security disaster, but let's not forget that JFK never gave air cover to the Bay of Pigs invasion resulting in the deaths and capture of thousands of Cuban patriots trying to overthrow Castro.
Nor was the Cuban missile crisis a one-sided victory. JFK pulled our missiles out of Turkey to appease Kruschev.
JFK was all style and media adoration. His presidency was as real as Camelot.
