Pamela's guardianship renewed for another six months! Please see "Scott's News" for more information. (continued at link)

Today was the long-anticipated status hearing on guardianship for Scott.
The hearing took place in judge's chambers with Pamela and her attorneys and Eliza and her attorneys. Pamela presented the judge with information that she has now filed with the court to have Scott declared "partially capacitated". This means, at the very least, that he would then be allowed to indicate his preferences for his social environment, such as who is allowed to visit. He has repeatedly indicated that he does not want to see Eliza, but he does wants to see his son.
Pamela also informed the judge that, after Scott is legally determined to be "partially capacitated", they would be filing for a divorce for him. [emphasis mine]
Eliza indicated to the judge that she would fight any divorce proceedings.
The final item that Pamela presented to the judge is that Scott is scheduled for surgery to close his tracheotomy opening, which should allow him to regain his ability to speak and make sound.
Based on all the above information, Judge Wilkes ruled to grant Pamela another six months of full guardianship of Scott. This will be a crucial time for Pamela and Scott, as they continue to work, not only for Scott's recovery, but for him to regain the right and ability to truly "speak for himself".
Please continue to join us in prayer and other support for Scott and Pamela as they continue the battle for LIFE.

What wonderful news. This should be a lesson for all to not be so hasty to kill.

She is responding to some stimuli and breathing on her own. They won't remove the child's feeding tube, at least for now.
Les,I haven't heard any further, hopefully Theodore R. can give some more details.

From North Country Gazette:
The newest judge in Brevard County has never handled a trial but now she's a judge.
And the judgments she made in her last job have come under review.
Help Wanted: Judge---No Experience Necessary

Officials first reported changes in Haleigh's condition on Wednesday, a day after the Supreme Judicial Court ruled that the agency had the authority to remove her ventilator and feeding tube.
Monteiro said the state now has no immediate plans to remove her feeding tube, and more medical tests will be performed Thursday. She said Haleigh had responded to some testing on Wednesday but would not specify what the tests or responses were.
When Haleigh was hospitalized four months ago, her doctors said she was in a permanent vegetative state and would die within a few days without the feeding tube.
Some patients with severe brain stem injuries may partially recover from a persistent vegetative state, but they rarely recover fully enough to communicate, feed themselves and live ordinary lives, Dr. Steve Williams, chief of rehabilitation medicine at Boston Medical Center, told The Boston Globe in its Thursday editions. But he said recovery is more likely with children than adults.

I agree! I think this little girl is obviously showing improvement and since she is they should do whatever they can to keep her alive and help her.
After experiencing my grandfather die I came to a new conclusion about the feeing tube issue. A feeding tube should not be removed in a person NOT DYING. If there is no hope and the person needs to be let go and I mean NO HOPE, than and only than should all life support be shut down.
Food keeps us alive, even for the dying. My Papaw fell unconsious on a Sunday night after eating lots that day. He had a order stating he did not want any life support keeping him alive. He has cancer and was dying and we all knew it was his time.
So, we did not feed him once he went down, but we knew he wasn't going to starve to death as the Hospice Nurse said he has just a few days to life if even that. Of course we put water into his mouth and kept moisturizing his tounge and never once to he appear like the lasck of food was killing him, it was the cancer.
My Papaw died Wed night after the Sunday night he went down. He did not die of lask of food, he died of his cancer. I was there as well as my entire family and we took care of him till the end. Never was he hungry. If we had fed him he might have stayed alive longer because food does help sustain life in a way, but he was going to die with out without it, and he was in so much pain and ready to go.
So, the way I view the feeding tube issue now is that it should never be removed from someone just in a coma, with brain damage, or not dying. ONly the dying who fall unconscious near the hour of their death should be the expception, and that is it!
See, doctors don't know everything!
Thanks for the pings, 8mmMauser. I hadn't heard of "A Distant Thunder," before and I'm glad to be aware of it now.
"You forgot the cherished constitutional right to have your brains suctioned out."
I was discussing this with a friend awhile back. She said God must have needed a lot of little angels in heaven.
I wonder, if in the hereafter, the parents that did this will have to stand face to face with the children they did it to.
As things are usually understood, they will have all eternity to face and regret their evil.
May God have mercy on all of us.
