MEXICO CITY, Mexico (AP) -- The death of a Mexican man shot by U.S. authorities while trying to sneak into California proves that extending border walls will not curb illegal immigration, President Vicente Fox's office said Monday.
Guillermo Martinez died Saturday in a Tijuana hospital, a day after he was shot by a U.S. Border Patrol agent near a metal wall separating that city from San Diego, according to prosecutors in Baja California state.
Authorities said Martinez was on the Mexican side of the border at the time, but may have picked up rocks and made motions as if to throw them at the U.S. agent.
Baja California Gov. Eugenio Elorduy said in a statement that U.S. officials were investigating the shooting. But U.S. authorities on Monday could not confirm that.
At his briefing with reporters in Mexico City, Fox spokesman Ruben Aguilar said the government "laments and condemns" Martinez's death, and is demanding an investigation.
"This occurrence does no more than provide evidence that only a law that guarantees legal entry and is respectful of human rights can resolve the migratory problem both countries face," Aguilar said.

The death of a Mexican man shot by U.S. authorities while trying to sneak into California proves that extending border walls will not curb illegal immigration, President Vicente Fox's office said Monday. It "proves" no such thing. The only thing that has been "proven" is that President Vicente Fox's spokesperson is a stranger to rational thought processes.

This occurance shows that one should try to get here legally and that the fence concept DOES work and there is a consequnce for threatening Border Offiicials with bodily harm.

That all depends on how the wall is built and protected. At a minimum it will cost more to get across, will slow them down and channel them into heavily protected areas where the illegals and their Coyotes can be caught, tried, sentenced and as appropriate imprisoned for any crimes before being deported as far away from the US border as humanly possible.

Mexico: Walls won't stop migrants They'll help. And when used in combo with cutting off welfare benefits for illegals and heavily fining employers who hire illegals, it'll do the trick.

I'll listen to Vicente Fox as soon as he grants US citizens the right to freely migrate to Mexico without the hinderances of border checks and limitations on length of stay and prohibitions on seaside real estate purchases.

In related news, President Vicente Fox's spokesperson declared that it has been proven that bank walls and bank vaults do not curb the activities of bank robbers, therefore Mexican banks will henceforth not be permitted to store money inside bank vaults or behind walls.
Furthermore, it has been "proven" that dams and levees do not curb the effects of moving water, and therefore Fox is directing that all Mexican dams and levees be dismantled.

Mexico has bitterly opposed the House bill, which Foreign Relations Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez branded as "stupid and underhanded." Fox has called it shameful. No senor fox (lower case intentional) what is shameful is the way, you, and your corrupt government exploit the people of your country.

"Authorities said Martinez was on the Mexican side of the border at the time, but may have picked up rocks and made motions as if to throw them at the U.S. agent.'
This statement doesn't pass the smell test. Use of deadly force by a Border Patrol Officer is a significant act. To do so against someone who "may have" picked up rocks and "may have" made throwing motions is NOT enough to draw a weapon much less use it. This guy was either doing a lot more or the Border Control is getting out of control. Experience indicates the former.
