MAYOR TAKES AIM VS. GUNS ("We will take our message to Albany, to Washington...," Bloomberg said.)
NEW YORK POST ^ | January 2, 2006 | STEFAN C. FRIEDMAN

Routing the city's "scourge of illegal guns" will be the top priority in the next four years, Mayor Bloomberg pledged yesterday as he was sworn in for a second term.

"Our most urgent challenge is ending the threat of guns and the violence they do," Bloomberg said during his inaugural address on the steps of City Hall — winning the loudest applause of the 19-minute speech.

"Now we have a duty as well, one that rises above partisan politics, and one that we will pursue relentlessly: And that is to rid our streets of guns, and punish all of those who possess and traffic in these instruments of death," Bloomberg told 5,000 supporters.

Invoking the names of Officers Dillon Stewart and Daniel Enchautegui — the two NYPD cops recently gunned down, the mayor vowed to raise his anti-gun crusade to the national stage.

"We will take our message to Albany, to Washington, and to every capital of every state that permits guns to flow freely across its borders," Bloomberg said.

"This is a national threat — one that crosses city lines and state boundaries."

Bloomberg's push for a further gun crackdown comes in the wake of state lawmakers' passage last month of the "heroes law" — named for Stewart and Enchautegui — which increases penalties for trafficking in illegal guns and for gun crimes against cops.

The Post had crusaded for the law in the wake of the slayings of the cops.

In what aides said was a swipe at the National Rifle Association, Bloomberg said, "To those who distort our laws and aid and abet hardened criminals, know this: We will not rest until we secure all the tools we need to protect New Yorkers from the scourge of illegal guns."

The need for action on gun violence was...

One of my guns got a little violent today, so I fed it some .410 shot shells instead of its usual diet of .45-70 405 Gr. RNFP.

Calmed it right down.

I thought Ca was ridiculous. I have to laugh at this. I supposed if I lived in NYC, it wouldn't be so funny.

Yea. My favorite was the no ammunition stipulation.....getting busted for a .22 round rolling around under my seat isn't what I would call "gun friendly"......

Thanks for the ping.

It looks like they are trying to expand New York's "common sense" gun control to the rest of the nation. Expect Hitlery to pick us this platform in 2008.

Happy New Years to you and yours, BTW.

Dear New Yuckers,

"Liberalism is a mental DISEASE".

Years ago I used to have to listen to my friends from NY City tell me how intelligent and sophisticated the residents of the "greatest city on earth", (at least in their fevered minds), are.

Their subsequent election of Hitlery, as their junior senator, put THAT absurdity to rest forever, (at least to any honest thinking person).

If you choose to live in one of the socialist hives, (and make no mistake, it is YOU that takes that decision), you have nobody to blame but yourself.

Thank the Lord, that New York City, and the rest of the hives, are there, (waaaaaay over there), to draw those who would be slaves into them, so that the rest of the country can exist without such sheeple under foot.

These diseased hives, generate more hives, perfect homes for voluntary slaves, voluntary serfs, voluntary subjects. These hives are the homes and breeding grounds for the enemies of America.

What you see IS what you get.

What are you going to do when they outlaw knives and baseball bats in your hive?

I imagine that it will be business as usual for you, submission gets to be a habit, doesn't it?

Slavery can be a nasty habit, so, go lick your master's hand while crying how unfair it is.

SOMEBODY is listening.

I lived on five acres in NY State, and it was damn near impossible to even mention my weapons (that I bought years ago when I was living in CO as a college grad and spent 10 years there) to an LEO. One of our neighbors who was a chief of police, and I had a "conversation." He said that "this conversation never happened." As he would have to search my home and throw me in jail for unregistered handguns in the State of NY.

That being said, after we retired, we moved to rural Western NC in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on Lake James.

I have to admit, though, that Hoppe's #9 is more pleasant to work with than cat litter.

Real women wear Hoppe's #9. Forget the Chanel #5.

I doubt the dems will try to make a national issue of gun control anymore with the exception of a small number of true believers in local races since 2000. If Gore had won either Arkansas, Clinton's home state, Tennessee, his home state, or traditionally dem West Virginia, it would have been President Gore.

Democrats tone down gun-control stance

Look at Governer Warner in Virginia, Kerry hunting in Iowa before the primary, Carnahan shooting clay pigeons in Missouri, etc. They've become quite gun-shy, if not gun friendly like Warner. If the cops had not been killed, and the local papers like the NY Daily News and NY Post didn't make a big stink about it, Bloomboob would not have tried to use it for political gain, IMHO.

Dayam, does this mean I was breaking the law when I hit NYC back in 1963 with a .357 double derringer in my boot top? Don't worry, Bloomie, I didn't stay long, and won't be back!

I know a guy who has a CCW from Long Island, is that part of New York considered NYC, like the boroughs are, or is it a separate part, meaning that he can't carry in NYC?

Someone who's from outside NYC, but has a concealed carry permit from somewhere in NY State, can't use it in NYC, IIRC. Check the link in comment 39, "Firearms Laws For New York City As of January, 2005."
