Couric: Candor, Contrition Bush Bounce Basis
Today Show/NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Much as the folks at Today revel in reporting soaring gas prices and, when it comes to President Bush, falling opinion polls, sometimes those pesky facts get in the way.

But that was not about to stop Katie Couric this morning. The Perky One, tan and blonder-than-ever in her return from vacation, spun Bush's recent poll bump solely and exclusively as the result of his mea culpas.

Katie's guest was reliable all-purpose talking head Howard Fineman.

Couric:

"His poll numbers started to tick upward before the holidays, Howard because it was sort of a more candid, contrite approach on the part of the President. Will he continue the strategy, do you think?"

Howard didn't think so:

"It doesn't sound like it. i think he's spoiling for a fight on the question of whether he took the right tack in terms of listening in on these phone calls. He's coming out fighting on this and I think he's going to have a fight on his hands."

Note that Couric didn't attribute just some of Bush's polling bump to candor and contrition. In Katie's book, apparently, the series of forceful speeches on Iraq by the President, and the successful elections there, had nothing to do with it. All of his uptick in the polls is due to his recognition of and apology for past mistakes.

How's that for the MSM making lemons out of lemonade?

Couric, the new Hanoi Jane Fonda.

The polls are BS meant to give emptyheads like Couric something to say rather than intelligent conversation. It's a way to enforce an imaginary power of coersion the media likes to think it has over politics.

You must remember that Katie was a cheerleader in high school. I've seen the yearbook pictures (she was real cute); she's still essentially leading cheers for the DNC.

I haven't watched TODAY in years, based on all reports it's turned into a real propaganda show.

Good point, cheerleading is exactly what she does - still.

Sad what passes for a qualified 'journalist' these days. But considering the slow self-destruction of the leftist media, maybe that's all they can afford?

But the NYT, WaPo, CBS, and WaPo are doing their best to speed up the disintegration. Buh-bye, and take CNN and the rest with you please?

Then there's the Couric Variation: when life hands President Bush lemonade, make lemons out of it!

Unwatchable.
Don't know how you can listen to it, but thanks for posting the results.
I would be screaming at the tube. DNC talking points for twenty minutes each morning.

Don't know how you can listen to it.

Simple. Before turning on Today, I wash down an indusrial-strength Nexium with a dozen of Teresa's gin-soaked raisins ;-)

Hopefully she will leave for CBS and then bomb.
She is looking her age and her wrinkles display a well deserved scowl.

LOL.

The libs are fighting with NO WEAPONS on this. Bush is going to smoke those b*stards on this issue. He is RIGHT on the issue .............. and I'd guess that at least 80% of Americans know, at least deep down inside them, that he is working to keep them safer.
