Breaking on CNN live right now.
Because Gov Dolittle hasn't a clue. Did you hear that wimpy press conference tonight? So nice of him to cut his vacation short -- fires started 10 days ago, he left on vacation, and didn't return until Friday after the Holiday Bowl. Priority -- watch the Sooners and then return to the State. I love the Sooners but if I was Governor I certainly wouldn't be out in San Diego partying with the State burning.
Why hasn't the legislature built up rural fire departments knowing this happens from time to time?
Apparently between Jenks and Glenpool, which is just down the north cowpath from Cabbage Patch, but before the Shady Acre's fork in the road (easiest to find by looking for the big split Oak in Farmer Johnson's outer pasture, on the right side when taking the trip to Bountiful.)
aka just south of Tulsa, OK.
You're pretty close to us, then. Miami area?
Gov. Richardson....is an empty "suit".
Hah, map shows it is "severe". Guess I need to pay closer attention!
Mustang got burned pretty bad a couple days ago. Havn't heard of any problems recently over there. These things seem to just jump up. Quite frequently, I'm sure, they are the result of stoopidity - fireworks, discarded cigarettes, outdoor burning have been mentioned by The fire Major on TV. Im sure he knows what he is talking about.
Thanks:)
I've lived here for 25 years, and this "mountain" I live on burns about every year. Some one's trash or something gets loose. I know fires can be serious, but I've kind of learned after all these years that at least in this area they're not that bad. We don't have lush grass, mostly lots of leaves and they burn slow and not all that hot because they're so thick they stay damp even during the summer. I've tried lots of times to burn them off.
Right now on my property theres' just nothing left to burn. The horses have cleaned it all up down to the dirt, and with the wind almost all the leaves have blown away.

Surely he won't give my gov a run for most idiotic and incompetent governor. My prayers for you all in the affected areas. Democrat leaders = oxymoron.
Hurricanes you can prepare for, fires moving at 30 mph sneak up on you.

Hi! We don't have any fires around Norman that I have heard about. Don't think where I live is as dry as we got more snowfall the other week then most areas. I did water my roses and other plants on Thursday -- my lawn is still partially green due to the fact I overseeded the bermuda with fescue.
Heh - thanks... that's about what it's like for me, not knowing where any of these places are. I've got two FReeper friends near Tulsa - Bixby area
The helicopters cannot fly at night because of low power lines. Channel 9 chopper has been up all day. We only have two Chinooks and two Black Hawks available. This State was not prepared for these type of fires even though they have happened in the past according to Channel 9. Gov DoLittle doesn't instill much confidence either.
***You're pretty close to us, then. Miami area?***
I guess we could find something good about the fires. There will be less ticks and chiggers in parts of the state this year.
Gov DoLittle is trying but he hasn't come close yet! :)

Makes me wax sentimental for the late jailbird Gov David Hall!
Or you could be in Moore/OKC where street names change back and forth depending where OKC crosses Moore. Here in Norman we have SW 24th, NW24th, SE24th, NE 24th -- that goes for 12th Ave, 36th, 48th, 60th and the list goes on. Dumb if you ask me.
LOL. I like that!
Just hope he doesn't stiff the volunteer fire departments that have been paying their own costs.
OMG - friends of mine from the Gulf Coast in Mississippi moved in with relatives in Ok City because they lost their home. Have not heard from them in a while. I can't imagine how they must be feeling with another disaster upon them. Prayers for everyone in the states of Oklahoma and Texas.
Prayers for all in the path of these fires!
