It would be nice if FR allowed more search options. For instance: Author. I'm currently trying to find a Michael Chricton article about global warming that appeared as a thread a time back but none of the keyword or title searches have helped. I'm sure I could google both Chricton and global warming and probably find the link and then search for that title at FR, but wouldn't it be better to have that option within FR from the getgo.
Just a thought; in reality, I don't know how much of a strain that would put on the search engine here, need for new architecture, etc.
For things like that I tend to use google advanced search, defining the site as FR.

I think I just found the article here but the title doesn't turn up in FR searches but now I will use the method you have suggested and see what happens. Thanks.
Not to be too snide but you might try spelling his name correctly. It is Crichton.
Worry not, we all do it.
It would be good if the search function would always find what I am looking for. Seems hit or miss a lot.
Michael Crichton's book called "State of Fear" is what you are referring to?
Thanks for that. I remember that thread but I distinctly remember reading "Aliens Cause Global Warming" here at FR; wonder if someone just linked it from within a thread?
Happy to help. You're welcome.
You just have not been here long enough to use that feature.
The Google advanced search did it. Thanks!

Question: Why doesn't FR return this thread when you enter that exact title in Search?
This is why there are so many duplicate threads here.
That would be Michael Crichton's CalTech Michelin Lecture 2003 "Aliens Cause Global Warming."
Cute.
LOL! You're starting your new year out snarky...

I am going to argue that extraterrestrials lie behind global warming. Or to speak more precisely, I will argue that a belief in extraterrestrials has paved the way, in a progression of steps, to a belief in global warming. Charting this progression of belief will be my task today. Let me say at once that I have no desire to discourage anyone from believing in either extraterrestrials or global warming. That would be quite impossible to do. Rather, I want to discuss the history of several widely-publicized beliefs and to... |

I know but it didn't matter since I copied and pasted when I searched his name. The author's name is generally not a keyword or in the title anyway so it's pretty much irrelevant.
google:
site:freerepublic.com "michael crichton"
It certainly does.
I meant the thread I was searching for. Sorry for the confusion. Anyway, I discovered my error. See post 16.
Happy New Years.
