A Day in the Life of President Bush (12/31/05): New Year's Memories
White House ^ | 12/31/05

Posted on 12/31/2005 3:01:38 PM PST by Wolfstar

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush, the First Lady, the dogs and cat, and their family are spending the New Year's holiday at their Texas ranch.

On this New Year's Eve, 2005, although mindful of those who will not continue the journey with us into 2006, it seemed to me we should celebrate happy times. That is the theme of this last Dose thread of 2005.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, to all. May your 2006 be healthy, happy and full of love.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the first Inaugural Address of President George W. Bush, January 20, 2001.

Americans are generous and strong and decent, not because we believe in ourselves, but because we hold beliefs beyond ourselves. When this spirit of citizenship is missing, no government program can replace it. When this spirit is present, no wrong can stand against it.

After the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: ``We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?''

Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.

We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.

Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.

This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.

Thank you. It was hard for them. She was young, only 68, which is young these days. My husband went with him to the funeral home to help him with the arrangements. They did not have plots or any plans for this type thing. We don't either.....something we should sit down to do.
She was well loved. She had over 1,000 attend the funeral and with it being Christmas eve day that speaks volumes of her character.
I guess I had better go and get ready for church. I am running slowly this morning. Can't seem to get moving. :) Must be the new year. :)

I'm sure it will be delicious with that wonderful sauce. How is your dad? And how are you?

Custard on Christmas cake I am interested how that will taste never tried that before. Normally I marzipan my cake and ice it and serve as is or with a slice of cheese on the side.

Though as it is a very rich fruit cake I suppose there is little difference in pouring custard over it than doing the same with Christmas Pudding in richness and taste they are very similar.

I am going back to school this year and had to take a class either on Monday night, Tuesday night or Thur. night.! Don't these schedule makers know those nights are the best one's for T.V. viewing???? Any way I decided to take the one on Thursday. Couldn't miss the AI thread!!

LOL--I'm honored (and extremely flattered!) that you would alter your schedule like that :)

And congratulations on going back to school. How long will you be going?

Hello jonny! :)

you would alter your schedule like that :).......Well of course I would. I wouldn't dare miss the most entertaining thread of FR! That would be such a square thing to do.

And congratulations on going back to school. How long will you be going?

It should take me a year to finish. Just in time to go back to teaching. It will be strange to work away from home. A little sad too because that will mean all my younguns' are all in school. My youngest starts kindergarten in the fall. I will be crying like a baby. :)
