A Day in the Life of President Bush (12/31/05): New Year's Memories
White House ^ | 12/31/05

Posted on 12/31/2005 3:01:38 PM PST by Wolfstar

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush, the First Lady, the dogs and cat, and their family are spending the New Year's holiday at their Texas ranch.

On this New Year's Eve, 2005, although mindful of those who will not continue the journey with us into 2006, it seemed to me we should celebrate happy times. That is the theme of this last Dose thread of 2005.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, to all. May your 2006 be healthy, happy and full of love.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the first Inaugural Address of President George W. Bush, January 20, 2001.

Americans are generous and strong and decent, not because we believe in ourselves, but because we hold beliefs beyond ourselves. When this spirit of citizenship is missing, no government program can replace it. When this spirit is present, no wrong can stand against it.

After the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: ``We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?''

Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.

We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.

Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.

This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.

I am doing OK, dad has his ups and downs it has not helped being such a delay because of the Christmas and New Year holiday for the funeral.

We have finally arranged that and I am sure once that is over it will give him some finality that he has not got because he did not see her during her last week. I am thankful he did not as I think it would have taken a long time for him to remember her as he would want to fit and well.

That is shame about the timing will be able to reschedule the black belt easily or is it one of these things that is only done periodically.

Oh, I'm taking 17 hours next semester. Two of the classes probably won't have papers but my four poli sci classes probably all will. I have Politics of Terrorism, State and Local Government, Public Administration, and Political Philosophy. I'll do the laundry if you give me the money. Laundry's expensive. The washer is $1.25 for one cycle and the dryer is a dollar for one cycle. There's a salad bar and a grill bar and pizza during the week but on the weekends most people go home, so there's only the regular bar.

Sunny San Diego has turned to rain. We are not getting the downpour like San Franciso, though. Our is just a nice little steady rain. It's nice for me because I'm home and not out in it! LOL

Since we don't get much rain, it is a nice change of pace. 75 sunny degrees is not very Christmas-y.

I know what you mean about how your dad can now remember your mum. It did take a bit of time to remember how vibrant my dad used to be, after seeing him so ill (this was 5 years ago).

I hope the time comes soon that you and he can remember your mum without saddness creeping in.

Well I hope the New Year will bring your father (and you) some peace.

Broken bone or not, I will be on the floor testing for my black belt. Indomitable spirit.

I've already done all my breaking, including my foot! I just need to get back on the floor and kick some a$$, even if it is with one leg tied behind my back. LOL.

My mum was a worker and an energetic person and thankfully I am already remembering this more than her last few years.
