PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush, the First Lady, the dogs and cat, and their family are spending the New Year's holiday at their Texas ranch.
On this New Year's Eve, 2005, although mindful of those who will not continue the journey with us into 2006, it seemed to me we should celebrate happy times. That is the theme of this last Dose thread of 2005.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the first Inaugural Address of President George W. Bush, January 20, 2001.
Americans are generous and strong and decent, not because we believe in ourselves, but because we hold beliefs beyond ourselves. When this spirit of citizenship is missing, no government program can replace it. When this spirit is present, no wrong can stand against it.After the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: ``We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?''
Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.
We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.
Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.
This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.
He had refused to listen to doctors, or do what they said, and was going downhill very rapidly physically as well as mentally. It is a relief that he is in a facility where he is getting the help he needs. Of course they can't address his psych needs yet, but we're talking with the social worker, psychiatrist, etc. to be sure they know his history and will get what he needs.
You're welcome, Meg .. Happy New Year!
I"m so sorry for the losses in your family! Those darn men and their denial of chest pain . . .
That IS convoluted . . . LOL!
LOL...thanks for getting Dubya the message....have a Happy New Year..
"Your Honor, I'll prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Kitkat and Mystery knowingly conspired to abuse my client, to starve him, to ridicule him and to put him out in the cold. I'll even prove that 'Kitkat' and 'Mystery' aren't even their real names!" (gasp from the court)
:)
Believe it or not, sometimes I really miss college! Congrats on your wonderful GPA!
I AM very greatful for the blessings of 2005; friends, family, and our new home at the ranch. :-)
Enjoy your vacation!
Well, on my visit to the ranch this week we (Dubya and I) were talking about FReepers . . . among other world events . . . and your name just happened to come up! LOL!
Are you all recovered from your surgery? IIRC it was a tough recovery. How's Brandon and Mike and your DIL and future grand-baby?
Happy New Year to you too!
Are you two at it again...I turn my back for a couple of hours to get Brandon to bed and I come back here seeing jonny wants a lawyer.........kit...if you fed him bird seed, you must concede...(I know, I'm no Johnny Cochran)
LOL....If I had followed the doctors orders it wouldn't have been so tough......but, it's true..the older you get the harder the recovery.......Dubya and I have been tight for years...he calls me all the time for advice(just ask the NSA)....he doesn't listen all the time though!
That's not bad, Buddy :)
How about: "If you feed the seed, you must concede!"
That's better.....you can write the copy from now on..LOL......how've you been kiddo?.....I hope you had a wonderful Christmas....and my wish for you is that all your wishes come true in 06...Happy New Year...
Well, if you miss college that much, I'm sure I'll have more papers next semester that you're welcome to do for me :)
I wish you a blessed and healthy new year. You certainly deserve it!
Well, Dubya told me he had an *older* FR advisor, but he wanted to bring me in for some younger ideas . . . LOL!
Are you pretty much recovered now?
I love horseradish the hotter the better and I eat it with all kinds of hot and cold meat not just beef
If he wanted YOUNGER ideas, that would be me! After all, I'm the young'un around here.
I will come back to college as long as I can live in a dorm room by MYSELF, have my meals cooked for me (cafeteria meals aren't that bad if I don't have to do ANY work preparing, shopping for groceries, cooking, or cleaning up after),and there are some cute instructors! Do we have a deal? Oh, and you cannot tell my family where I am. Are we on?
Now, that was uncalled for, esp. after I offered to write all your papers next semester! Kids these days . . . grumble . . . grumble . . .
