Vehicle Registration Is One Tax Increase...
While the new year is close, the celebration may end abruptly on Jan. l.
Honolulu residents can expect to see huge tax increases go into effect in 2006, including higher property assessments, increased sewer fees and a big hike in vehicle registration fees.
Traci Loa...about the new fees.
Loa drives a 7-year-old Chevrolet van. Like every other car owner on Oahu, this year Loa will have to pay 50 percent more to register her vehicle.
"It's irritating," said Loa. "I mean, I could do so much more with the money...
The vehicle tax hike will hit driver Clare Cabuhat even harder.
"It will affect (me) because I have three cars, so if you add it out, it will really cost a lot," said Cabuhat.
The 50 percent vehicle tax increase starts officially on Sunday, the first day of the new year.

It is way expensive to have a car over there anyhow.
Parking in the hotels is a outrageous daily fee, one year we went I was 8.5 months pregnant. Had to have a car. Became a sizeable expense of the vacation...
Da ya think they might make a connection between this and how they vote?
Like most Liberal voters, the ones doing most of the voting don't HAVE cars. They either too poor or too dead.
never
Remarkably, the voters don't seem to have made this connection.
You mean dead people don't have cars?
Better check at the DMV...you never know.
Why is there an Interstate Highway in Hawaii? (aka the Sandwich Islands)
Then stop electing Demoncrats!
"Da ya think they might make a connection between this and how they vote?"
You read my mind ... I just posted and then saw your reply.
Demoncrats aren't known for being too bright ... you can only hope they see the connection.
How are the price controls on gas working out?
Little known on the mainland, Hawaii is the country's "Welfare Queen" state. It pays huge amounts to every layabout so they can live comfortable middle-class lives. The cost to taxpayers, of course, is huge, but the state has become so loaded with Liberals and welfare bums that it is unlikely to change.
"The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Hawaii is $2.710,
$2.628 on Oahu,
$2.772 in Hilo and
$2.962 in Wailuku, Maui, according to AAA Hawaii."
$168.00 to "re-register" my truck every two years.
Why SHOULD "registration" expire?
What purpose does that serve...other than to line the State's pockets.
"Gas Cap Goes Up For 2nd Straight Week..."
HONOLULU -- The Public Utilities Commission on Wednesday announced that the wholesale gas cap will increase 6 cents next week.
The PUC hike has made it two straight weeks of increases in the wholesale price.

Last year I was out there and found it to be a creepy place that was very overbearing with it's environmental stuff. I don't smoke, but a "No Smoking " sign at a volcano? Hawaii is exactly what you would expect, given that it is a socialist's laboratory. Now that I've seen Pearl Harbor and the Arizona there is no reason to ever go back.
Same with Puerto Rico
I suppose this increase in funds is to pay for the fact they fixed gasoline prices at the governmental level recently ?
Government is like a baby: An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.
Ronald Reagan
Hawaii has the greatest percentage of people working for government of any state.
