December 31, 2005 -- WASHINGTON Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton yesterday called on President Bush to launch an investigation into the Small Business Administration's outrageous bungling of a special loan program meant to help businesses hurt by 9/11. Clinton said she was "particularly incensed" that the SBA pushed lenders across the country to peddle 9/11 loans to a tanning salon in Las Vegas and a golf course in Texas "while many New York businesses struggled just to stay afloat."
She dispatched letters yesterday to Bush and to Sens. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and John Kerry (D-Mass.) the top two members of the Senate Small Business Committee urging immediate action.
Clinton is pouncing on the damning results of an internal investigation by the SBA's inspector general. The probe came after The Post's stories exposing how dozens of Dunkin' Donut shops around the country got loans totaling more than $20 million under the program.
The Post reports this week have also highlighted how a candy store in Illinois and janitorial service in Colorado secured big loans, while New York City businesses like Steamers Landing, just blocks from Ground Zero were turned down by the SBA.
The investigators found that as many as 85 percent of the businesses that got the special STAR loans failed to prove they were harmed by the attacks and many actually experienced soaring sales immediately after the attacks.
Clinton wrote to Bush that "it is troubling to know that many other businesses with questionable qualifications in parts of the country far removed from New York" received loans, while those near Ground Zero "may have been dissuaded from even applying."
She told her Senate colleagues that oversight hearings are needed to understand "how the program not only failed to adequately oversee ...

Hillary was apparently more outraged over this than Billie Bob's BJ's in the Oval Office. Pardon me, but I doubt her sincerity or outrage over anything--I mean, like she cares.
What do you want to bet that those "dozens of Dunkin' Donut" stores are owned by a guy named "Jamal"...half the money went for improvements and half went to terrorists...yep thats what will happen..and hillary will be a hero - get elected -
oh my someone slap me...please
Hillary works hard getting pork for her re-election efforts, she damned sure doesnt want to see anyone who cant vote for her get the benefit of this pork.
I wonder why she didnt get the Sr. Senator from New York Chuckie Baby to jump on this with her. Maybe she see's it as a winner and doesnt want to share anything with Chucky Baby.
No kiddin' Hill, that's what he said.
Well, anyway, I miss you dearly and wish I smelled like fish ( ... (;^) ... )
Yours, ever,

Government was to be a forward looking body and promote goodwill for it citizens (subjects now). How can anyone get anything done when they are probing the prober's? Our government is way out of touch. Gets worse everyday they are in secession, and sometimes when they are not.
Do you have any info on these Dunkin' Donut stores?
Have a nice day !
And Hillary is an expert on loans to women, the poverty stricken, and not just here, but worldwide. Remember her Bejing (Women of the World Unite) speech?
Lots of info online about her touting these loan programs for women, even giving herself credit for inventing them, but precious little on how the programs performed. (Not counting HRC press releases.)
Butt you're right about Hillary cherry-picking her topics. She claimed ownership of loans years ago, so it stands to reason she would use the issue of loans as a presidential "find and fix" platform
I thought it was her job to protect the interests of her constitutents........oh, my bad. She's been running for President since 2000. Sorry.

From the link:
A four-month investigation by New York's Daily News reveals that the process for doling out the $21.4 billion disaster recovery package was "procedurally flawed" - and that there was "little oversight there was over the spending."
"In effect, no one was watching," the News said - including Mrs. Clinton.
uhhhhhh,hahahhahahahha Bevis Rocks.
Thank you.Noted and bookmarked.
What were the 2 senators from NY doing during all this time? Why did she wait until now to care about this issue?
I bet if Billary gets off her arse, she'll find businesses in Upstate that procured loans too (she won't though, because it would be bad bull to tick off potential voters).
From this link: 4-year scandal of the 9/11 billions :
... For 9/11, longstanding disaster aid rules were turned on their head.
...Under the Stafford Act, which governs federal disaster relief, victims typically first apply to the Small Business Administration for loans. If rejected, applications are generally made to FEMA. That rule was dropped in New York.
Congress reaped what it sowed.
